Planet: €240 Million Awarded For Satellite Services Deal

Planet Labs Germany, a leading provider of daily Earth observation data and insights, announced a multi-year agreement valued at €240 million, funded by the German government, to support European peace and security initiatives. Under this deal, Planet will offer dedicated capacity and direct downlink services via Pelican satellites over specified European regions.

The contract also grants access to PlanetScope and SkySat data, along with AI-enabled solutions designed to enhance situational and maritime domain awareness.

With this agreement, high-resolution imagery and timely intelligence will be provided using the dedicated capacity on Pelican satellites, including those being developed under a previously announced satellite services agreement. This ‘dedicated capacity’ model offers a cost-effective and efficient way for customers to access advanced space-based capabilities without the complexities associated with building and maintaining their own satellite infrastructure.

This strategic deal demonstrates Planet’s commitment to delivering high-performance satellite solutions tailored to the evolving needs and increasing demand from its global customer base. Planet is uniquely positioned to meet the complex requirements of governments, leveraging its proven track record of hundreds of operational satellites, efficient satellite manufacturing processes, and constellation-scale operations to offer top-tier capabilities at competitive prices.

Building on Planet’s recent significant agreement with NATO, this new contract further strengthens Planet’s reputation as a trusted and essential partner for customers seeking to enhance their strategic capabilities. These agreements within Europe highlight the global need for improved daily monitoring, early warning systems, and responsive space capabilities as governments navigate an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.

This contract capitalizes on satellites currently under development. And Planet anticipates beginning to recognize revenue from this agreement in January 2026, with a gradual increase over several years. Consequently, Planet has decided not to update its previously issued financial guidance for this fiscal year, which was provided on June 4, 2025.
