By Amit Chowdhry • Nov 13, 2025

PMWEB is a construction project management platform for owner-operators of complex capital projects. The platform empowers teams to manage every project across the entire capital portfolio, from initial planning through delivery and long-term operations. Pulse 2.0 interviewed PMWEB CEO Huw Roberts to gain a deeper understanding of the company.

Huw Roberts’ Background

Huw Roberts

Could you tell me more about your background? Roberts said:

“I began my career as an architect, working on large and complex projects like hospitals, healthcare systems and university buildings. In the course of that work, I realized that technology could fundamentally change how these projects were delivered. I started writing software to make myself a better architect but quickly found myself captivated by the technology. That shift pulled me into the software industry, first building products and eventually leading teams.”

“I spent nearly two decades at Bentley Systems, a global infrastructure software company, where I learned how to deliver projects like rail networks, tunnels and offshore wind farms. Later, I led a European software company serving the pharmaceutical, chemical and energy industries, highly regulated sectors where safety and information security are critical. We modernized the business, scaled its operations and nearly tripled its size in five years, even during the pandemic.”

“I came to PMWEB because it has a fantastic product with marquee customers across industries, but business operations that needed the right systems and capacity to scale. My focus now is building on that strong foundation so more organizations worldwide can gain the visibility and control they need to deliver capital projects with confidence.”

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Roberts shared:

“When I first began working with organizations managing large-scale capital initiatives, the challenge was unmistakable: Many executives simply lacked the tools to see real-time risks and opportunities across their portfolios. You can’t manage what you can’t measure. That insight sparked PMWEB’s mission to change that.”

“At PMWEB, we empower capital project owners to take command of the world’s most complex portfolios, from early planning and construction to asset and operational management. We’ve designed our platform to be the strategic control center that brings clarity, control and confidence to every phase of the project lifecycle.”

“As PMWEB’s role has evolved from providing reporting tools to serving as a strategic command center for capital portfolios, so has mine. I now help organizations think beyond traditional project management and embrace portfolio visibility as a mindset that transforms execution, aligns decision-making, and enables portfolios to deliver better outcomes at scale.”

Favorite Memory

What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Roberts reflected:

“Meeting with our Customer Advisory Board and learning about the scale and complexity of the work they’re doing, as well as how our solutions have enabled them to scale and deliver with confidence.”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Roberts explained:

“We’ve built a capital portfolio management platform that serves as an integrated command center for owners. It connects every project, process and person from planning and design through construction and ongoing operations, so leaders can see risks and opportunities in real time and act with confidence. The platform eliminates the need for executives to toggle between disconnected systems; they can manage budgeting, contracts, change orders, scheduling and reporting all in one place.”

“At its core, the platform delivers three things: visibility through real-time dashboards and portfolio analytics, control through robust cost and contract management tools, and efficiency through workflow automation and seamless integrations. The result is a single source of truth that gives organizations clarity and control over their investments, from planning and construction all the way through asset operations.”

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Roberts acknowledged:

“One of the biggest challenges has been shifting mindsets in an industry that is both risk-averse and still very dependent on spreadsheets. Many organizations still manage capital programs project by project, using tools that weren’t designed for the complexity or scale of today’s investments. The result is limited visibility, siloed decision-making and a constant struggle to align the work in the field with executive priorities.”

“We’ve overcome this challenge by proving the value of a portfolio-level approach. When leaders can see across every project in real-time, they’re able to anticipate risks, course-correct faster and make decisions with confidence. The ROI speaks for itself: faster delivery, fewer cost overruns and stronger alignment between the executive suite and the project teams. Once organizations see those measurable results, the adoption curve accelerates quickly, even in a cautious industry.”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Roberts noted:

“We started with reporting tools that gave leaders a snapshot of performance. But today, with the launch of PMWEB 2025, the platform has become a true command center, delivering real-time portfolio visibility, risk tracking and forward-looking analytics. We’ve modernized the entire user experience with a faster, mobile-responsive design and smarter workflows, while also expanding integrations with tools like Adobe Sign and EarthCam. Now, executives have comprehensive information at their fingertips to empower confident decision-making.”

“What’s most exciting is how the platform connects strategy to execution. By consolidating fragmented data across projects and systems, PMWEB gives leaders the ability to align decisions at the boardroom level with what’s happening on the ground. That shift from reactive reporting to proactive, portfolio-wide management is what sets this platform evolution apart.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Roberts cited:

“More recently, a defining moment was our strategic growth investment from Bregal Sagemount in late 2024. That partnership gave us the resources to accelerate our roadmap and expand our reach, while also marking an important leadership transition as I stepped into the role of CEO.”

“This past year, we also unveiled a new chapter for PMWEB with a refreshed brand and platform evolution. For me, that rebrand was about more than a new look; it signaled our commitment to modernizing the user experience, strengthening enterprise services and positioning PMWEB as the command center for lifecycle capital portfolio management.”

Customer Success Stories

Can you share any specific customer success stories? Roberts highlighted:

“UC Davis Health oversees a $600 million annual capital budget and more than a thousand projects a year, everything from medical facilities to research infrastructure. For years, they were stuck with an older system that had become slow, overly customized and too fragmented to cover the full plan–build–operate lifecycle. The result was inefficiency, confusion and projects running over time and cost.”

“When they moved to PMWEB, they could consolidate everything into a single, integrated platform. More than 800 users now rely on PMWEB to manage planning, scheduling, procurement, cost and reporting. Our intuitive workflows and real-time dashboards gave their teams immediate productivity gains, streamlined procurement processes, and transparency that simply wasn’t possible before. The best proof point? Adoption skyrocketed; people actually wanted to use the system because it made their work easier.”

“Those results speak louder than any slide deck. UC Davis now has a clear, unified view of projects and finances across its entire 10-year capital plan, driving accountability and confidence at every level of the organization.”

Funding/Revenue

Are you able to discuss funding and/or revenue metrics? Roberts revealed:

“PMWEB is currently experiencing strong growth. In late 2024, we announced a strategic investment from Bregal Sagemount, underscoring our confidence in our platform’s trajectory and enabling us to expand aggressively both domestically and internationally.”

“But for me, growth isn’t just about numbers, it’s about outcomes. We measure success through our customers: how confidently they can navigate their portfolios, how efficiently they execute projects and how consistently they realize more value. That’s reflected in our high retention rates and the meaningful impact our software delivers across the enterprise.”

Total Addressable Market (TAM)

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Roberts assessed:

“The construction industry is the largest industry on the planet. PMWEB will continue to support owner-operators managing complex capital construction projects on a global scale.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Roberts affirmed:

“What makes us different is that we built PMWEB for the people who ultimately carry the risk of capital investment decisions: owners, executives and decision-makers.”

“In a sector that has long been risk-averse and reliant on spreadsheets, we provide a purpose-built platform that connects planning, construction and operations into one command center. Our focus on owner-operators means we deliver visibility and control across the full lifecycle. That shift from fragmented systems to unified portfolio intelligence sets us apart and is why global institutions from Harvard to JPMorgan Chase trust PMWEB to manage their most complex capital programs.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Roberts emphasized:

“We want to make visibility and control a standard across every capital portfolio worldwide. That means expanding integrations, scaling internationally and enhancing predictive analytics so leaders can anticipate risks before they materialize.”

“Our recent rebrand underscored this commitment to modernizing the platform experience, streamlining enterprise services and positioning PMWEB as the command center for lifecycle capital management. As we look ahead, our goal is to keep raising the bar on what owners can expect from technology by equipping leaders to manage their portfolios with clarity and confidence.”

Additional Thoughts

Any other topics you would like to discuss? Roberts concluded:

“The biggest takeaway is this: most project challenges come from not having clear visibility into what’s really happening across the portfolio. When leaders do have that visibility, they can step in earlier, anticipate risks and keep decisions aligned. That’s why treating capital portfolio management as a strategic capability matters so much, it gives organizations the confidence to deliver better outcomes. We’re excited to continue that conversation at our upcoming Projections Conference 2026, where industry leaders will come together to share insights, success stories, and new perspectives on the future of capital project and portfolio management.”
