Pointivo, an Atlanta-based company that taps into artificial intelligence and computer vision for providing automated analytics for drone and manned aerial platforms, recently announced it raised $7 million in Series A funding led by BIP Capital. The 3D Intelligence Platform created by Pointivo is considered an innovative solution that automates the manual processes around inspecting and assessing physical assets for the insurance, roofing, solar, telecom and energy industries.
The 3D Intelligence Platform is able to process images from drones, manned aerial, and mobile cameras and automatically extract critical information about structures, which results in significant cost savings. And Pointivo provides API access to its cloud-based platform so partners can offer valuable information to customers. In order to develop its technology, Pointivo partnered with the largest drone platform companies and manned aerial imagery providers.
“Our ability to integrate AI and computer vision to automatically extract valuable 3D information about a scene sets us apart,” said Pointivo co-founder and CEO Dan Ciprari in a statement. “By offering access to our platform via a simple API call, we enable our partners to provide automated solutions to differentiate themselves in their industries. They can solve real business problems economically and achieve the promise of drones and aerial-based imagery powering normal business operations. The team at BIP Capital will be invaluable to us—both in terms of capital and acceleration—as we continue our growth and expand our depth and reach in our different markets.”
Ciprari is a serial entrepreneur with more than 25 years of founding, leading, and exiting technology companies. And Ciprari advised fellow Pointivo co-founder Habib Fathi while serving as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Advanced Development Technology Center (ATDC). Fathi received a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and continued his research about spatial data collection of large-scale structures.
Pointivo recently won a number of accolades include “Best in Show” in the Technology Association of Georgia’s Top 10 Innovative Technology Companies. Venture Atlanta also named the company as a top five Startup to Watch. And the National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded Pointivo over $1.5 million through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.
“We’re excited to partner with Pointivo as artificial intelligence and computer vision continue to become significant business process drivers,” added BIP Capital SVP Dan Drechsel. “Pointivo’s significant investment in hard-to-replicate, patented technology enables its partners to deploy highly compelling use cases. The company’s partners have already deployed the solution to improve the servicing of assets in insurance, roofing, solar, energy and telecom.”
