Pomerium: NextGen Access Platform Company Raises $13.75 Million In Series A Funding

Pomerium, a NextGen Access platform, announced it has raised a $13.75 million Series A funding round led by Benchmark. Return investors Bain Capital, Haystack, SNR, and Oleg Rogynskyy (founder of People.AI) also participated in the round. Benchmark general partner Eric Vishria will join the company’s board.

Pomerium is also announcing its newest security platform offering, Pomerium Zero. This version of Pomerium offers both on-premise and hosted benefits when securing clientless connections to web applications and services without a corporate VPN.

After spending over a decade in cybersecurity, CEO and founder Bobby DeSimone recognized flaws in the standard approach to enterprise security.

Instead of focusing on a network-centric approach, Pomerium takes an application-centric approach for seamless, context-aware access, eliminating the corporate VPN while providing faster, more secure access.

Pomerium is an access platform serving as a gateway between users and the resources they need, ensuring only authorized individuals can reach protected assets.

As an acting intermediary, Pomerium proxies the traffic between users and resources, brokering access without ever exposing the resource directly to the user. And by continuously verifying identity, access permissions, and context, Pomerium offers a more secure alternative to traditional session-based access solutions.

This architecture enhances security and also boosts productivity, benefiting developers, IT teams, and end-users alike. And Pomerium ensures complete data privacy by handling data decryption and inspection within the company’s own infrastructure, reducing the risk of exposing sensitive information to third-party provider breaches.

Pomerium’s approach is already transforming tech companies with cybersecurity companies like ExtraHop relying on Pomerium to secure their deployments. And companies report faster application deployment times after integrating Pomerium’s unified access control, making Pomerium unique in the security industry as a workflow and productivity enabler. The core values of being better, faster, and safer than the other options on the market make Pomerium the right solution for companies trying to balance security with productivity in the current landscape of data breaches and ransomware hacks.

So far, Pomerium has surpassed over 1 billion Docker pulls, and millions of requests are handled through the platform to serve access for thousands of users daily. And with the new funding and support from Benchmark, Pomerium intends to scale its team to meet this growing demand, and continue enhancing its product as it expands further to serve companies of all sizes across the globe.

KEY QUOTES:

“I founded Pomerium because your security solution is only good if it’s usable – if it makes your employees’ lives harder, they’ll simply disable it or find a workaround. Our clientless access approach means security becomes invisible to the user.”

– Pomerium CEO and founder, Bobby DeSimone

“Pomerium, with open source at its core, is poised to create a massive shift in the way enterprises evaluate and buy cybersecurity. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a security product speed up organizations instead of slow them down. Bobby and his team have done the impossible and created a security product that everyone in your company actually likes to use.”

– Eric Vishria, General Partner at Benchmark
