PRC-Saltillo, a global provider of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) technology, has acquired Ner Chat, the New York-based developer of Glint, a visual-support creation platform used by educators, therapists, and specialists. The acquisition brings together PRC-Saltillo’s established communication technology capabilities with Ner Chat’s software designed to simplify the creation of personalized educational and communication materials.
The companies plan to integrate PRC-Saltillo’s Minspeak symbols into Glint, enabling educators and clinicians to develop visual supports using symbols that are already familiar to children who rely on Minspeak-based AAC systems.
These symbols are used in communication applications including LAMP Words for Life and Unity, as well as systems available through Genesis, NovaChat, Accent, and Via devices. Incorporating them into Glint is intended to create greater consistency between an individual’s primary communication tools and the supplemental materials used in classrooms, therapy sessions, and other environments.
Founded in 2024 by Dylan Makani and Scott Soifer, Ner Chat developed Glint to reduce the time required to prepare personalized visual communication materials. The platform allows educators and specialists to generate visual supports using simple text prompts, transforming tasks that traditionally require extensive manual preparation into processes that can be completed in seconds.
Glint supports the creation of classroom activity boards, visual schedules, social narratives, choice-making resources, and communication boards. The platform also provides QR-code sharing capabilities in more than 50 languages, enabling educators and support teams to distribute materials across different settings and communities.
By incorporating Minspeak symbols, the companies aim to help educators develop resources that reinforce existing communication systems rather than introducing unfamiliar visual representations.
The integration will also support the creation of low-technology backup AAC materials, providing additional communication options for individuals who use electronic speech-generating devices.
This approach may be particularly useful for educators, speech-language pathologists, therapists, and families who need to develop individualized communication resources that align with a learner’s existing vocabulary and communication strategies.
PRC-Saltillo brings approximately 60 years of experience in AAC technology to the acquisition. Founded in 1966, the company develops speech-generating devices, communication applications, and research-based vocabulary systems for individuals with complex communication needs.
The acquisition comes as PRC-Saltillo celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026 and continues investing in technologies designed to improve communication accessibility and reduce implementation challenges for educators and caregivers.
Ner Chat’s Glint platform currently supports tens of thousands of educators across hundreds of school districts. The acquisition provides an opportunity to extend the platform’s capabilities by integrating established AAC vocabulary systems with its visual content creation technology.
The companies plan to demonstrate a beta version of Glint featuring Minspeak symbols at the Closing The Gap Conference. Customer availability will follow the demonstration, with additional product innovations planned as the organizations expand their collaboration.
Glint will continue operating under its existing brand following the acquisition, preserving its established identity while benefiting from PRC-Saltillo’s AAC expertise and resources.
PRC-Saltillo is headquartered in Wooster, Ohio, and is entirely employee-owned. The company operates internationally through subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, Singapore, and India.
The acquisition strengthens PRC-Saltillo’s ability to offer complementary communication and educational tools while supporting its broader objective of making AAC technology easier to implement across schools, clinical environments, and everyday settings.
KEY QUOTES:
“Our history is built on relationships with people who use AAC and the families, educators, and clinicians supporting them. Those teams tell us what they need. We want to make it easier to create useful materials with the symbols a child already knows and spend more time supporting communication.”
Sarah Wilds, CEO Of PRC-Saltillo
“We built Glint to help educators and therapists turn their ideas into visuals without spending hours preparing materials. Working with PRC-Saltillo brings deep AAC experience to that goal.
