Proficient Auto Logistics has completed its acquisition of Hansen & Adkins, creating what the company describes as North America’s largest auto transportation provider and giving the combined business exposure to roughly one-quarter of the addressable new-vehicle transportation market. The previously announced transaction closed on August 13, 2026. The combined company expects to transport more than four million vehicles annually.
Proficient also expects about half of its transportation mix to come from company-operated deliveries rather than subhaulers, driven by its larger owned fleet and expanded driver base.
Hansen & Adkins becomes the largest operating company within the Proficient platform.
The Hansen & Adkins brand will remain in use in the U.S., while its Canadian operations will continue under the MCL McGill name.
Founders Steve Hansen and Louie Adkins will remain advisors through the end of 2026 to support the transition.
Proficient plans to complete the broader integration by early 2027.
The company’s initial focus will be on identifying operational efficiencies, consolidating or optimizing the combined maintenance shop footprint and integrating teams.
Proficient also expects the larger network to improve capacity and equipment utilization.
Greater route density could reduce empty miles driven between vehicle deliveries while allowing transportation resources to be deployed more efficiently across customers and markets.
The acquisition comes as the auto-hauling industry faces capacity pressures tied to regulatory and economic factors.
Proficient believes the combination strengthens its ability to provide automotive manufacturers with reliable transportation capacity as available supply tightens.
The company transports finished vehicles from automotive factories, marine ports and rail yards to dealerships and other destinations across North America.
Following the acquisition, Proficient operates through nine industry-focused operating companies, four of which have been added since its May 2024 IPO.
The enlarged company also has a broader portfolio of relationships across automotive OEMs.
Proficient believes its larger scale will create benefits across supporting infrastructure, fleet utilization and other shared resources while improving its ability to absorb changes in customer volumes.
The integration process over the next six months will focus on capturing those efficiencies without disrupting service to customers.
