Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced that Pierre Le Manh will step down as President and Chief Executive Officer on September 30, 2026, after four years leading the organization. Johannes Heinlein, PMI’s Chief Growth Officer, has been appointed Interim President and CEO, effective the same day. The organization’s board will conduct a search for a permanent successor.
Le Manh joined PMI in September 2022 and led the development and implementation of its current strategy. During his tenure, the organization expanded through acquisitions and partnerships, strengthened its leadership team, and developed additional capabilities as artificial intelligence reshaped the project management profession.
PMI also expanded its emphasis on measurable project outcomes and reported growth across every geographic region during 2026.
Heinlein currently oversees PMI’s global advocacy, community, research, education, and business growth initiatives.
Before joining PMI, he held leadership positions across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America, including roles at Harvard University, MIT, and Deloitte.
At Harvard, Heinlein directed university-wide change initiatives in the President’s Office before becoming Chief Commercial Officer and Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at edX, the online learning platform founded by Harvard and MIT.
As interim CEO, Heinlein will maintain PMI’s strategic priorities and oversee operations while the board conducts its permanent leadership search.
