Provident Financial Services has appointed Michael E. Regan to the boards of directors of the company and its wholly owned subsidiary, Provident Bank. The appointments became effective on July 30, 2026. Regan brings more than 35 years of experience in financial institution supervision, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management.
Regan spent his career with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, where he evaluated the safety, soundness and risk management practices of community banks, regional institutions and larger, more complex financial organizations.
As a Senior Bank Examiner with the FDIC, Regan led safety and soundness examinations involving financial institutions with assets ranging from approximately $100 million to more than $100 billion.
His work included assessing capital adequacy, liquidity management, credit risk, operational resilience, cybersecurity preparedness, internal controls and executive oversight. He also regularly presented examination findings and strategic recommendations to bank boards, audit committees, risk committees and executive leadership teams.
Regan’s regulatory experience also included supervising multidisciplinary examination teams and reviewing merger and acquisition applications. He advised financial institutions on governance practices, regulatory relationships, succession planning and the alignment of executive compensation with risk management objectives.
Provident said Regan’s background will add extensive regulatory and risk-management expertise to its boards as the company continues executing its strategic priorities.
His appointment could provide the company with additional perspective on governance, capital planning, operational risk, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance as financial institutions navigate an increasingly complex operating environment.
Regan will serve on the boards of both Provident Financial Services and Provident Bank, giving him oversight responsibilities at the holding-company and banking-subsidiary levels.
