PsiQuantum Finalizes $100 Million U.S. Department Of Commerce Award

PsiQuantum has finalized definitive documentation with the U.S. Department of Commerce for a $100 million federal research and development award intended to strengthen U.S. quantum computing capabilities and semiconductor supply-chain security.

The funding is being provided through the CHIPS and Science Act and follows a May 2026 letter of intent covering the proposed $100 million award.

Combined with PsiQuantum’s own investment in the project, the federal funding will support research, domestic manufacturability, and performance improvements for several critical technologies used in the company’s quantum computing architecture. These include high-performance optical switches, high-temperature single-photon detectors, and advanced semiconductor packaging approaches.

PsiQuantum is developing fault-tolerant quantum computers based on silicon photonics and uses existing semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure as part of its strategy for scaling quantum computing systems.

The company has been working with GlobalFoundries since 2019 to scale production of quantum photonic chipsets in the United States.

PsiQuantum said it invested approximately $200 million with hundreds of U.S. suppliers and vendors across 38 states during 2025, and the Commerce Department award will build on those investments in a domestic supply chain.

The award adds to PsiQuantum’s broader relationships with the U.S. government. Since 2022, the company has worked with the Air Force Research Laboratory on semiconductor manufacturing and silicon photonics, and in July 2026 it announced an expanded $125 million agreement with DARPA under its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative.

KEY QUOTES:

“America’s national security and economic prosperity depend on secure supply chains for cutting-edge technologies. PsiQuantum is proud to anchor our supply chains here in the United States. Thanks to the leadership of the U.S. government, our company will be able to manufacture even more of our state-of-the-art components in America.”

Victor Peng, Chief Executive Officer of PsiQuantum

“PsiQuantum’s silicon photonics platform will create consequential opportunities across advanced computing infrastructure even as we build and deploy fault-tolerant quantum computers. Our new award from the Department of Commerce will help take our momentum to the next level.”

Rob Soderbery, Executive Vice President at PsiQuantum

“GlobalFoundries is excited to continue partnering with PsiQuantum to accelerate photonic quantum computing. Useful quantum systems will be built on manufacturing that already works at scale, a conviction that has driven our collaboration since 2019. GF’s capabilities in silicon photonics, advanced packaging and system-level integration, combined with PsiQuantum’s proven leadership in photonic architectures, will accelerate the scalable semiconductor foundation needed to enable next-generation quantum systems.”
