PteroDynamics, an innovator in autonomous vertical takeoff and landing aircraft systems, announced that ONE Bow River National Defense Fund has made a strategic growth investment in the company to accelerate the development, testing, and manufacturing of its Transwing VTOL unmanned aircraft systems.
The investment is aimed at helping PteroDynamics expand engineering operations, advance flight testing initiatives, and scale manufacturing capacity as demand grows across defense and commercial markets. The funding also supports the continued development of the company’s next-generation Transwing aircraft platform, which is designed for both vertical takeoff and winged horizontal flight operations.
PteroDynamics’ patented Transwing technology features folding wings that transition between configurations optimized for hovering and fixed-wing cruising. The company says the design combines the speed, endurance, and range of traditional fixed-wing aircraft with the operational flexibility of VTOL systems.
ONE Bow River focuses on investing in technologies intended to strengthen U.S. national security and support the defense industrial base. The firm said PteroDynamics’ technology aligns with its investment strategy around contested logistics, aerospace innovation, and defense readiness.
The current fourth-generation P4 Transwing VTOL UAS has a takeoff weight of 89 pounds and can carry payloads up to 15 pounds. The platform is intended for surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics support, and operations in austere or remote environments where traditional runway infrastructure is unavailable.
PteroDynamics is also developing its larger fifth-generation P5 Transwing aircraft under a U.S. Navy contract awarded in 2025. The P5 platform is expected to have a maximum takeoff weight of 330 pounds, a payload capacity of 50 pounds, and a range exceeding 400 nautical miles while operating at 70 knots. Initial flight testing of the aircraft is scheduled to begin later this summer.
The company believes the Transwing platform is well-suited for time-sensitive delivery operations, maritime logistics support, reconnaissance missions, and transportation of high-value payloads to hard-to-access areas. PteroDynamics is targeting both military and commercial applications globally as autonomous aircraft adoption continues to expand.
ONE Bow River said the investment reflects increasing demand for advanced unmanned aircraft systems capable of operating in contested and remote environments while supporting automated logistics and surveillance missions.
