Public Acquiring Tornado’s Retail Brokerage Accounts

By Amit Chowdhry • Sep 9, 2025

Trading and investing platform company Public has acquired the retail brokerage accounts of Tornado, an AI-powered financial technology company serving institutional investors. As part of the transaction, more than 85,000 Tornado brokerage customers will transition to Public, gaining access to a broad suite of asset classes and advanced investing tools.

Tornado will continue to operate independently, focusing on its rapidly scaling agentic AI research platform tailored for hedge funds, asset managers, investment banks, venture capital and private equity firms, and other sophisticated financial institutions. The company has seen its revenue triple in recent months, driven by surging demand for its institutional-grade AI capabilities.

For Tornado members migrating to Public, the transition unlocks access to a wide range of investment products, including stocks, ETFs, bonds, cryptocurrencies, retirement accounts, and options trading. Users will also benefit from Public’s AI research assistant, Alpha, and can invest in customizable indexes through the platform’s Generated Assets feature.

This acquisition strengthens Public’s position in the retail investing space while extending Tornado’s reach into institutional AI innovation. Together, the companies are reshaping how investors—from individuals to institutions—leverage intelligent tools to navigate increasingly complex financial markets.
