PxE Holographic Imaging Raises $6.5 Million To Bring Depth And Infrared Capabilities To Sensors At Lower Costs

PxE Holographic Imaging – a company that develops holographic imaging cameras – announced that it comes out of stealth with a $5.4 million Seed Round led by KDT – Koch Disruptive Technologies (the technology investment arm of Koch Industries) and M Ventures (the venture investment arm of Merck). This latest funding round adds to the initial pre-seed investment by M Ventures, which together with several non-dilutive grants, brings the total investment in the company to $6.5 million since inception.

PxE’s holographic imaging technology makes it possible to acquire a high-resolution color image combined with an infrared image and a pixel-level depth map in a single snapshot that has 3 times the light sensitivity of a standard camera. And in contrast to other 3D imaging solutions that are complicated, power-hungry, and deliver poor depth performance, PxE’s passive and white-light holography approach delivers highly accurate depth data at distances ranging from µm to hundreds of meters. This camera is based on a single, standard CMOS image sensor combined with a layer of holographic optics. The captured holograms are decoded in real-time by PxE’s proprietary, fully deterministic algorithm that has a computational footprint similar to a standard camera ISP.

The broad applicability of PxE’s technology is reflected by the company’s wide variety of pilot customers – which includes leading companies in the fields of consumer electronics, wearables, aerospace, and semiconductors. The company will use the Seed Round funds to continue development in close alignment with their customers with the goal of obtaining the first qualifications for mass-market products in 2025.

PxE Holographic Imaging was founded in 2019 by CEO Yoav Berlatzky and CTO Yanir Hainick, a graduate of the renowned “Talpiot” program.

KEY QUOTES:

“We are very happy that we were able to team up with great investors like KDT and M Ventures on our journey to reinvent digital imaging and sensing. The current round allows us to accelerate our current efforts and partner with more customers to integrate the enhanced capabilities of PxE cameras into their products.”

— Yoav Berlatzky

“The imaging market has not seen meaningful transformation since the invention of the digital camera. PxE’s holographic imaging technology is well-positioned to disrupt the imaging market by adding depth and infrared capabilities at the same cost and size as standard imaging sensors, without compromising on image quality. We are excited to partner with Yoav and Yanir and help build a category-defining company.”
