QT Imaging Holdings has appointed veteran radiologist and healthcare entrepreneur Dr. Mark L. Winkler as Chief Medical Officer as the medical device company works to expand clinical adoption of its radiation-free Breast Acoustic CT technology.
Winkler brings more than four decades of experience spanning diagnostic radiology, medical imaging technology development and healthcare operations. He will lead QT Imaging’s medical and clinical strategy, including clinical evidence generation, physician engagement, clinical studies, publications, radiologist education and integration of the company’s imaging technology into clinical practice.
QT Imaging develops imaging systems that use low-frequency sound waves rather than ionizing radiation. Its broader strategy centers on making medical imaging safer, more accessible and more patient-focused, with Breast Acoustic CT positioned as an alternative approach for breast imaging.
Winkler’s appointment adds an executive with both clinical and business-building experience as QT Imaging moves further into commercialization.
He co-founded Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging, or SDMI, and served as its president. Under his leadership, the organization expanded to 13 outpatient imaging locations across the Las Vegas Valley before becoming part of Intermountain Health.
That operating background gives Winkler experience with the practical considerations involved in deploying new imaging technologies across outpatient settings, including physician adoption, workflow integration, economics and patient experience.
At QT Imaging, he will work closely with the company’s clinical, product and commercial teams to help align product development and evidence generation with the needs of radiologists, imaging centers and healthcare systems.
Winkler has also collaborated with Canon Medical Systems USA for more than four decades on research and development initiatives. That work has included clinical development and the integration of artificial intelligence into imaging products.
His academic and medical training includes undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees from Brown University, an internship at Stanford University Medical Center and a radiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco.
He also completed an MRI fellowship at UCSF and was among the world’s earliest physicians to receive specialized MRI fellowship training.
The leadership change also includes a new role for Dr. Elaine Iuanow, who is transitioning from Chief Medical Officer to Senior Clinical Advisor.
Iuanow will continue supporting QT Imaging and will provide continuity around the company’s technology, clinical research and radiologist education efforts.
As part of Winkler’s appointment, QT Imaging’s Compensation Committee approved an employment inducement award consisting of restricted stock units covering 150,000 shares of common stock under Nasdaq Listing Rule 5635(c)(4).
Of those shares, 50,000 are scheduled to vest on November 15, 2027, with the remaining 100,000 vesting quarterly thereafter, subject to continued employment.
The appointment comes as QT Imaging seeks to translate its imaging platform from technology development into broader physician and healthcare-system adoption. Winkler’s responsibilities will therefore extend beyond traditional clinical oversight to include helping the company demonstrate clinical value, educate physicians and address the operational and economic factors that can determine whether a new imaging technology gains traction in routine practice.
