Qualcomm Technologies announced the Snapdragon Reality Elite Platform, a new XR platform designed to power premium spatial computing experiences with advanced on-device AI.

The platform was introduced at Augmented World Expo and is designed for high-performance all-in-one video-see-through headsets and lightweight tethered optical-see-through devices.

Snapdragon Reality Elite is built to support immersive mixed reality experiences with improved visual fidelity, power efficiency, tracking, and generative AI capabilities. Qualcomm said the platform is designed to enable sleeker, cooler, and longer-lasting devices.

The platform delivers up to 48 TOPS of AI processing and can run large vision models and large language models directly on device. Qualcomm said these capabilities can support new generative XR experiences, including photorealistic avatars, LLM-based agents, and real-time object generation that brings dynamic digital content into a user’s environment.

Snapdragon Reality Elite also supports more contextual and natural XR interactions by improving head and hand tracking, see-through capabilities, and real-time responsiveness. The platform is intended to help users move more seamlessly between digital content and the physical world.

The new platform delivers up to 60% higher GPU performance, up to 30% higher CPU performance, and up to 160% higher NPU performance compared with prior-generation capabilities. These gains are intended to give developers more room to build richer visuals, more responsive interactions, and more complex mixed reality applications.

Snapdragon Reality Elite supports visuals up to 4.4K per eye at 90 frames per second, enabling sharper detail, smoother motion, and stronger color fidelity. Enhancements to video see-through are designed to reduce latency and improve image quality so digital content can blend more naturally with physical surroundings.

The platform also includes hardware acceleration for demanding computer vision workloads through IP hardening, including the EVA block. Qualcomm said the platform can deliver up to 20% longer battery life at the same workload and operate up to 12 degrees Celsius cooler under load.

Snapdragon Reality Elite will power Android XR devices, including XREAL Project Aura, which is expected to launch later this year. The platform is also being adopted by Play for Dream for its next generation of immersive devices, with additional products expected to follow.

Qualcomm said Snapdragon platforms continue to play a central role in the XR ecosystem, supporting a range of headsets and glasses from device makers and partners through performance, efficiency, and AI capabilities.
