R2 Wireless, a defense and security technology company focused on passive radio frequency (RF) spectrum sensing, announced it has raised more than $5 million in new funding, bringing its total capital raised to over $13 million. The new funding will support the company’s expansion across the United States as it increases engineering hiring and develops partnerships with defense and commercial organizations following deployments in Europe and the Middle East.
The company develops technology that provides passive visibility across the radio frequency spectrum, helping operators identify and analyze wireless activity without emitting signals. R2 Wireless says its platform addresses the growing challenges posed by modern threats, including drones, electronic warfare, and unauthorized wireless devices.
At the center of the company’s offering is the ODIN adaptive spectrum dominance platform. The system passively monitors RF signals and can detect, classify, and geolocate transmissions from sources such as drones, cellular devices, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other wireless technologies. Because the platform operates passively, it does not emit signals, require regulatory permits, or create privacy concerns, according to the company.
R2 Wireless said the technology is designed to serve as a foundational layer for situational awareness, allowing military, government, and infrastructure operators to understand spectrum activity in real time before taking action. The platform continuously learns the RF environment to help identify potential threats and operational risks.
The company has recently expanded its presence in global defense markets. R2 Wireless reported entering a formal agreement with a NATO member nation’s Ministry of Defense and signing a strategic agreement with one of Europe’s largest energy infrastructure providers. The company was also named a winner in the U.S. Army’s xTech Disrupt competition in the counter-unmanned aerial systems category.
As part of its U.S. expansion, R2 Wireless is collaborating with industry partners, including Allan Control Systems, to provide integrated detection and defense capabilities. The company said its platform is also being deployed with the Department of War, the Department of Homeland Security, and emergency response organizations.
In addition to the funding announcement, R2 Wireless named retired U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel and TOPGUN pilot David Berke as an advisor. Berke has flown multiple fighter aircraft, including the F-16, F-18, F-22, and F-35, and previously helped establish the Marine Corps’ first F-35 squadron. The company said he will advise on defense acquisition and next-generation warfare strategy.
Founded by former Israeli and U.S. military veterans and PhD researchers, R2 Wireless developed its technology in high-threat environments before expanding into Europe and the United States. The company focuses on enabling spectrum awareness for defense agencies, public safety organizations, border security operators, and critical infrastructure providers.
KEY QUOTES:
“Rapid innovation in drone tech, electronic warfare and RF cyber renders existing detection solutions ‘blind,’ and the surge in low-cost, RF-based threats is outpacing traditional defense procurement cycles. RF has become the backbone of modern threats, becoming a lethal weapon in the modern asymmetric battlefield and causing billions of dollars in damage. Governments and critical infrastructure operators must now defend against both physical and RF-based attacks. Connectivity is assumed – until it disappears. We’re building systems designed not just for performance, but for survivability in environments where failure isn’t an option.”
Onn Fenig, CEO of R2 Wireless
“Spectrum resilience has become a mission-critical capability just as kinetic weapons. The spectrum environment is only becoming more contested and congested. R2’s software-first approach aligns with how modern defense systems must evolve – adaptable, intelligent, interoperable by design, and built for operational stress. What caught me at R2 was the bold vision of the team, the disruptive technology, but above all, the creativity, speed, commitment, and passion of the team solving one of the biggest problems in modern warfare as we know it.”
