Rainbow Crops announced it has raised €9.7 million to accelerate development of its crop genetics platform and expand the use of advanced technologies in agricultural innovation.

The funding round was led by LIFTT, together with its vehicle LIFTT EuroInvest. Additional investors in the round included AIF, PINC, Corteva Agriscience through its Corteva Catalyst investment platform, Maia Ventures, and VIB.

Rainbow Crops is developing a platform to improve the discovery, design, and development of new crop traits. The company is using AI and multiplex genome editing to enable faster, more precise advances in crop genetics, helping agricultural companies and research organizations meet the growing need for more resilient and productive crops.

The company said the new funding will support the expansion of its AI capabilities and genome editing infrastructure. Rainbow Crops also plans to use the capital to deploy its platform across key crops, allowing it to apply its technology to areas of agriculture where improved traits can have meaningful commercial and sustainability impact.

The platform is designed to help improve the speed and execution of plant science development. By combining computational tools with advanced genome editing, Rainbow Crops aims to reduce bottlenecks in crop innovation and make it easier to develop plants with traits that can support yield, resilience, efficiency, and adaptability.

Rainbow Crops’ work comes as the agriculture sector faces mounting pressure from climate change, shifting growing conditions, resource constraints, and the need to produce more food with fewer inputs. Crop genetics is increasingly viewed as a critical area for improving agricultural productivity and helping farmers manage environmental and market challenges.

The participation of strategic and sector-focused investors reflects growing interest in technologies that can modernize crop development. Corteva Agriscience’s involvement through its Corteva Catalyst platform also highlights the potential relevance of Rainbow Crops’ technology to larger agricultural innovation ecosystems.

With the new funding, Rainbow Crops plans to strengthen its scientific and technical teams as it advances platform development. The company is expected to continue investing in talent across AI, plant science, genome editing, and computational biology.

The investment is expected to help Rainbow Crops accelerate its technology roadmap, validate its platform across more crop categories, and support broader adoption of its crop genetics capabilities. The company’s long-term goal is to help make crop improvement faster, more scalable, and better aligned with the needs of modern agriculture.
