Rapidus Corporation announced that it has completed an additional 150 billion yen funding round, equivalent to approximately $943 million, from the Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA), an independent administrative agency under Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The investment was made under Japan’s Act on Facilitation of Information Processing and represents another major step in the company’s effort to establish advanced semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in Japan.

The latest funding follows a 100 billion yen investment from the IPA that Rapidus received earlier this year. Combined with private-sector investments, the company had previously secured 167.6 billion yen from 32 corporate backers, including Canon, Development Bank of Japan, Fujitsu, NTT, SoftBank, and Sony Group. At that time, Rapidus reported that its total stated capital and legal capital surplus had reached 274.95 billion yen.

Following the newly completed 150 billion yen capital increase, Rapidus said its total funding now stands at 424.95 billion yen, significantly strengthening its financial position as it advances toward commercial semiconductor production.

Since fiscal year 2022, Rapidus has also benefited from subsidies provided through Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) under the Post-5G Information and Communication Systems Infrastructure Enhancement Research and Development Project. These initiatives support the development of advanced semiconductor manufacturing technologies and are focused on next-generation 2-nanometer semiconductor integration technologies, short turnaround-time manufacturing capabilities, and chiplet and packaging technologies through collaboration between Japan and the United States.

The company is currently transitioning from the research and development phase toward full-scale manufacturing of 2nm logic semiconductors, with commercial production targeted for 2027. To support that objective, Rapidus said it will continue pursuing a combination of public-sector funding and private investment.

Founded to develop and manufacture some of the world’s most advanced logic semiconductors, Rapidus is focused on accelerating semiconductor innovation through shortened development cycles across chip design, wafer processing, and advanced 3D packaging technologies. The company aims to strengthen Japan’s semiconductor ecosystem while supporting the development of next-generation computing and digital infrastructure technologies.
