Billionaire investor and Bridgewater Associates head Ray Dalio is funding a new center at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan for addressing health justice, according to Barron’s. The Dalio Center for Health Justice — which was funded by a $50 million grant from Dalio Philanthropies (the charity arm for Ray Dalio and his wife Barbara Dalio) — had launched earlier this week.
The center’s priorities include the reduction of health disparities that disproportionately affect communities of color.
“Our goal is to contribute to equal healthcare and equal education because we believe that these are the most fundamental building blocks of equal opportunity and a just society,” said Ray Dalio in a statement.
Bridgewater Associates has about $140 billion in assets under management. And Dalio has a net worth of nearly $17 billion.
“We are committed to improving the health and well-being of our patients and communities through research, dialogue and education, equity in our clinical operations, investment in our communities and advocacy for national change,” explained Dr. Julia Lyasere — who will be the head of the Dalio Center.
The Dalios have donated over $5 billion to their foundation so far. And the foundation has signed over $1 billion in grants to charities. And the Dalios also signed the Giving Pledge, which is an initiative led by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett for billionaires to donate a majority of their wealth for philanthropic purposes.
