Recast Software: Interview With Chief Technology Officer Rashmi Sharma About Endpoint Management And Cloud Transformation

Recast Software provides technology for modern endpoint and application management, serving as an operational layer for Microsoft environments by extending ConfigMgr and Intune. Its platform spans application management, third-party patching, endpoint visibility, reporting, and operational tooling across on-premises, co-managed, and cloud deployments. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Recast Software Chief Technology Officer Rashmi Sharma to learn more about the company’s evolution, its cloud strategy, and how it is helping IT teams navigate the transition from ConfigMgr to Intune.

Rashmi Sharma’s Background

When asked about her background and role, Sharma shared:

I’m the Chief Technology Officer at Recast Software.

I’ve spent almost more than 27 years in technology, starting as a developer and moving into leadership roles that balance strategy, people, and execution.

Before joining Recast, I was VP of Engineering at a B2B SaaS fintech scale-up in Amsterdam, and today I lead Engineering as well as IT/Security at Recast as we continue to scale the platform and strengthen execution across the business.

My role includes engineering strategy, delivery execution, platform reliability, team leadership, and the operating rigor needed to scale quality, security, and product delivery across a distributed organization.

How Recast Software Started

When asked how the idea for Recast came together, Sharma explained:

Recast’s story started with a community tool called Right Click Tools, which was released in January 2014.

That led to the company’s first customer sale in 2015, and Recast formally became a company in 2018.

It has grown from those roots into a community of over 108,000 annual users across 125 countries and a broader platform for modern endpoint and application management.

Favorite Memory

When asked about her favorite memory working for Recast, Sharma said:

One of the highlights for me has been witnessing the talented teams at Recast move our cloud strategy into tangible execution with Recast Cloud.

It reflects a broader shift in the market toward hybrid and modern management, and with that Recast is meeting customers where they are while continuing to support self-hosted environments.

Core Products And Features

When asked about Recast’s core products and features, Sharma explained:

Recast is the operational layer for Microsoft endpoint management.

We extend ConfigMgr and Intune with two core capabilities: Application Management, which is packaging, deployment, third-party patching, and a catalog of more than 8,000 applications, and Endpoint Visibility and Operations, which gives IT teams the inventory, reporting, and operational tooling they need to run their environment confidently.

We support on-prem, co-managed, and cloud deployments, so teams can operate effectively wherever they are in the transition to modern management.

Navigating The Shift To Hybrid And Cloud Management

When asked about challenges in the sector and how Recast has responded, Sharma explained:

One of the biggest challenges has been building for a market that is moving toward hybrid and cloud management while many customers still operate in on-prem or hybrid environments.

Recast’s response has been to keep self-hosted solutions fully supported while also advancing Recast Cloud, improving migration paths, strengthening release readiness, and clarifying how our Intune-focused capabilities are communicated internally and externally.

How Recast’s Technology Has Evolved

When asked how the company’s technology has evolved since launching, Sharma said:

Recast started as a community tool for ConfigMgr admins and evolved into a platform by following the logic to identify where Microsoft leaves gaps, build the capability that fills it, and make it available across deployment models.

Reporting, patching, and application management weren’t random additions. They were the capabilities IT teams needed and weren’t getting fully from Microsoft.

Key Company Milestones

When asked about some of Recast’s most significant milestones, Sharma highlighted:

Some of the biggest milestones have included extending our highly popular Right Click Tools solution with capabilities that help customers with application management and reporting.

These acquisitions allowed us to quickly add valuable capabilities that complemented Recast’s existing product portfolio.

Together, our solutions now provide a comprehensive platform for endpoint and application management.

More recently, we surpassed 2,000 customers worldwide, reflecting the continued growth and adoption of the Recast platform across organizations of all sizes.

Customer Success Stories

When asked to share specific customer success stories, Sharma highlighted several examples:

  •       Henderson Engineers: Cut endpoint issue resolution from hours to minutes while managing 3,000 endpoints during its move to Intune.
  •       State Government Agency: Unified 186 applications into a single workspace, reducing complexity and improving software access across the organization.
  •       Samtec: Leveraged Recast’s catalog of 6,000+ third-party applications as a critical “force multiplier” in its transition to Intune, accelerating modern device management while reducing application packaging and deployment effort.
  •       More reviews from happy customers are available on G2.

Total Addressable Market

When asked about the market opportunity Recast is pursuing, Sharma explained:

Recast operates in a large and expanding market at the intersection of endpoint management, application management, patching, and modern workplace operations.

That opportunity continues to grow as organizations move through hybrid and cloud transitions and look for simpler, more secure ways to manage applications, devices, and user productivity at scale.

Competitive Differentiation

When asked what differentiates Recast from its competition, Sharma said:

What differentiates Recast is the combination of deep Microsoft ecosystem alignment, practical value for real-world IT teams, and flexibility across deployment models.

Recast is an Intune and ConfigMgr companion, helps customers through complex transitions from ConfigMgr to Intune, and combines application delivery, patching, visibility, and automation in a single suite.

We also pride ourselves on our deep community engagement and customer proximity, which has shaped both trust and product direction over time.

Future Goals

When asked about Recast’s future goals, Sharma explained:

Looking ahead, Recast is focused on two things.

The first is deepening our offerings around Application Management.

We arethe best way to manage, patch, and deliver third-party applications in a Microsoft environment, and that capability will continue to  grow.

The second is expanding our Endpoint Visibility and Operations capabilities so IT teams have a single operational picture regardless of whether they’re on ConfigMgr, Intune, or both.

The broader goal is to be the platform every Microsoft endpoint team runs alongside Intune as the migration era matures.

We want to be the operational layer that makes everything else work.
