Reframe Systems Raises Additional $40 Million To Expand Homebuilding Microfactory Network

Reframe Systems has raised an additional $40 million in venture-backed equity financing to expand its robotics-enabled homebuilding platform and develop a larger network of microfactories across North America. The financing was led by Energy Impact Partners, with co-investments from Counterpart Ventures, E12 Ventures, Global Brain, Thin Line Capital, UP.Partners and LACI Impact Fund.

Existing investors Eclipse, VoLo Earth, Cubit Capital, RA Capital Management’s Planetary Health strategy, MassMutual Catalyst and Nor’easter also participated.

Reframe is developing a distributed manufacturing model in which small, highly automated factories are located closer to the communities where homes are needed.

The company’s software connects home design with production, while robotic systems automate repetitive manufacturing tasks and digital work instructions support assembly.

Reframe says its approach can deliver homes three times faster and at 35% lower cost than conventional construction.

The company is expanding capacity with FAB1, a new microfactory in Billerica, Massachusetts, which is expected to begin operations October 5.

With less than $5 million of equipment, FAB1 is designed to produce as many as 500 multifamily units or 250 single-family homes annually.

Reframe has completed 10 homes, eight of which are occupied, and expects to deliver another 114 units over the next year.

Projects in its pipeline include 12 units at Adams Circle in Devens, Massachusetts, a five-story apartment building in Roxbury, Massachusetts, a development in Thornton, New Hampshire, and wildfire-resilient housing in Altadena, California.

Reframe was founded in 2022 by former Amazon Robotics leaders Vikas Enti, Felipe Polido and Aaron Small, who previously worked on automation systems involving more than 500,000 robots across Amazon’s fulfillment network.

The company is now targeting production of one million homes globally by 2040.

KEY QUOTES:

“Reframe stood out to us for applying a unique combination of Physical AI and manufacturing discipline to one of the largest and least productive sectors of the economy. What gives us conviction today is the compounding momentum we’re seeing in the business. The company has moved beyond proving the technology to delivering scaled deployments, winning customers, and building repeatable execution. Reframe is helping create an era of housing abundance by making it possible to build more homes, more quickly, and more affordably. We believe that combination of mission and execution positions the company to become a category leader in housing production.”

Anil Achyuta, Partner at Energy Impact Partners

“The housing shortage is an abstraction until you’re the person who can’t find a home in the community you want to live in. Developers are demanding faster, energy-efficient, climate-resilient homes and we are answering that demand. With our technology, we’re able to deliver infill housing, such as a triple-decker in Somerville, in 180 days and help families in Altadena rebuild wildfire-resilient bungalows in months instead of years. With our model, every home we deliver makes the next one faster and cheaper to build, because our software, robotics and network learn from each deployment. That demand is why we’re expanding, and why we’re now targeting one million homes by 2040, five years ahead of schedule.”

Vikas Enti, CEO and Co-Founder of Reframe Systems

“After the fires, we were being told that a traditional construction rebuild could take years and could cost far more than we could afford. Reframe streamlined the process, secured the permits, coordinated with a contractor, and is completing our new wildfire-resilient home in months at a cost that worked for our family. That difference in timeline, cost, and security allowed us to move forward with confidence.”
