Reju has secured €135 million in funding from the Dutch government’s Nationale Investeringsregeling Klimaatprojecten Industrie program to support the development of an industrial-scale textile-to-textile regeneration hub at Chemelot Industrial Park in the Netherlands.
The funding will support both the construction and operational phases of the facility, marking a key milestone toward a final investment decision. The planned hub will process post-consumer textiles, particularly polyester-based materials that are typically difficult to recycle, converting them into high-quality circular inputs for new polyester production.
The facility is expected to produce Reju Polyester, a material designed to deliver approximately 50 percent lower carbon emissions compared with virgin polyester. By diverting textile waste from landfill and incineration, the project aims to significantly reduce the environmental impact of the fashion and textile industries while advancing circular economy objectives.
Located at Chemelot Industrial Park in Sittard-Geleen, the site was selected for its established industrial infrastructure, access to shared utilities, and proximity to research and innovation capabilities. These advantages are expected to enable efficient scaling, operational reliability, and future replication of the model across Europe.
Reju is owned by Technip Energies and leverages technology originating from IBM Research. The company focuses on regenerating polyester textiles and post-consumer PET waste to enable a circular textile system that reduces reliance on fossil-based raw materials.
The project aligns with broader Dutch and European Union goals to accelerate industrial decarbonization and expand circular manufacturing systems, positioning Reju as a key player in the transition toward sustainable textile production.
KEY QUOTE:
“We are grateful to the Government of the Netherlands and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate for supporting the scale-up of commercial technologies that can deliver measurable emissions reductions and accelerate the transition to a truly circular textile industry. This award is a strong vote of confidence in our technology and our team. At Chemelot, we will deliver circular raw materials at scale, reduce emissions across textile value chains, and establish a replicable blueprint for circular textiles in Europe.”
Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju
