Remission Medical: Series A Raised For Virtual Rheumatology Platform Expansion

By Amit Chowdhry • Apr 13, 2026

Remission Medical, a virtual rheumatology company that partners directly with health systems to deliver embedded specialty care, announced the close of its Series A funding round led by Blue Heron Capital. The company will use the new funding to expand its health system partnerships, grow its clinical workforce, and scale its technology platform to support broader deployment.

The investment comes as demand for rheumatology services continues to outpace supply across the United States. More than 54 million Americans are affected by rheumatic diseases, yet a shortage of specialists has led to average wait times of over two months for initial appointments. This gap creates challenges for health systems, including lost referrals, declining quality metrics, and delayed diagnoses for treatable conditions.

Remission Medical addresses this issue through a partnership model that embeds Advanced Practice Providers directly within health system operations. By integrating into existing electronic medical record workflows, payer contracts, and clinical protocols, the company enables health systems to launch rheumatology service lines in weeks rather than years.

A key component of this model is RemissionOS, the company’s proprietary AI-native workforce platform. The system is designed to manage a distributed clinical workforce at scale, automating functions such as referral intake, scheduling, documentation, revenue cycle operations, and performance reporting. This infrastructure allows Remission Medical to maintain consistency and quality across multiple health system partners while scaling efficiently.

The company currently operates across a broad national network that includes major health systems and specialty groups such as Sentara, OrthoVirginia, WellSpan, Ochsner, Campbell Clinic, Gundersen, MultiCare, and St. Francis.

Remission Medical has experienced significant commercial momentum, including triple-digit growth over multiple years and geographic expansion across its partner network. The Series A funding will support continued expansion and investment in its platform, as well as exploration into additional specialty areas beyond rheumatology.

Founded by Blake Wehman, the company is headquartered in Henrico, Virginia, and aims to extend its AI-enabled care delivery model into other high-demand specialties facing similar access challenges.

KEY QUOTES:

“We built Remission Medical around a simple but powerful premise: health systems already have the infrastructure, the patients, and the payer relationships – what they are missing is the specialty clinical capacity and the operational backbone to run it. RemissionOS is what makes our model scalable. It allows us to bring a new health system partner live quickly, manage a distributed workforce with precision, and generate the performance data that keeps these programs growing. Rheumatology is where we’ve proven it. This investment opens the door to doing the same thing in other underserved specialties.”

Blake Wehman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Remission Medical

“What makes Remission Medical distinctive is the combination of a proven health system partnership model and a purpose-built technology platform that makes that model defensible at scale. RemissionOS is not an afterthought – it is the operational engine that allows this team to grow the network without sacrificing quality or margin. We believe Remission Medical is building the category-defining infrastructure for how health systems access specialty care, starting in rheumatology and with a clear pathway to adjacent specialties.”
