RestorePoint.ai is a Secure Managed Data as a Service company with a goal of enabling midsize enterprises to punch above their weight by unlocking the full potential of their data with simplicity and security, and within budget. The RestorePoint.AI platform and Secure Managed Data Service enables customers to take advantage of new analytics and AI-driven technologies and extract business intelligence from their data regardless of where it resides while meeting security and governance requirements. Pulse 2.0 interviewed RestorePoint.AI founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Abdul Altamimi to learn more about the company.

Abdul Altamimi’s Background

Altamimi is an authority on data management, data protection, and managed services. And with over 30 years in global IT services, he guides the company’s roadmap, architecture, operational strategies, and technological innovations, Altamimi works closely with partners to tailor solutions for international clients. Altamimi said:

“I grew up in Africa and was fascinated by computers from a young age. I initially pursued a diploma in computer studies in Kenya and worked various jobs, including on my father’s farm and as a firefighter. My journey in IT began when I moved to the United States to further my education, landing at Georgia Tech where I studied electrical engineering. My career has spanned several roles across IT and engineering, ultimately leading me to found RestorePoint.ai.”

Formation Of RestorePoint.ai

How did the idea for RestorePoint.ai come together? Altamimi shared:

“The idea for RestorePoint.ai emerged from my experiences in early roles where I managed IT and network systems, specifically backups. I noticed significant gaps in the reliability and efficiency of existing backup solutions, and the management overhead they imposed on customers. This realization coincided with the advent of online backups, which inspired me to start a company that could offer more secure and robust data management as a service. Soon I realized that  customers also wanted to outsource data recovery, and required pre-built data analytics capabilities, ransomware protection and regulatory compliance frameworks.”

Favorite Memory

What has been Altamimi’s favorite memory of working at the company so far? Altamimi reflected:

“Growing RestorePoint.ai through the last six years has been challenging and rewarding. We made it through the pandemic with no layoffs, and have pivoted from being a backup service provider to a fully integrated DataOps as a service that provides customers with connectivity, security, analytics, and regulatory compliance capabilities that span multiple cloud platforms. In addition, hiring Dave Albano as CEO from AT&T to run the business and sales function has allowed me to focus on technology as CTO.”

Core Products

What are RestorePoint’s core products? Altamimi explained:

“Our core offering is a Managed Secure DataOps Service for midsize enterprises that combines cloud connectivity, data management and analytics/AI with security/governance controls to make companies data-driven. We enable customers to safely use and extract intelligence from data by providing discovery, normalization, classification, enforcing security policies and providing AI tools. Our mission is to offer fast time to value and enable companies with limited resources to unlock value from their data, while making sure it’s always available, secure, and compliant with industry standards.”

Challenges Faced

What challenges has Altamimi and the team faced in bulding the company? Altamimi acknowledged:

“The rapid pace of technological change presents continuous challenges for midsize organizations. We focus on helping customers  put the right infrastructure in place before deploying AI so they manage risk, be agile to adapt to evolving business requirements and capitalize on new opportunities.”

Customer Success Story

After asking Altamimi about a customer success story, he highlighted:

“Recently a startup in the healthcare sector needed to manage vast amounts of sensitive and siloed data securely. We helped them implement a solution that decouples data from their applications, allowing them flexibility and security in how they use their data. This not only met their immediate needs but also positioned them to scale securely and efficiently.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates RestorePoint from the competition? Altamimi affirmed:

“We are unique in two ways. First, we have created a purpose-built platform for delivering a managed DataOps service with integrated security/governance controls to midsize enterprises. Unlike alternatives, RestorePoint.ai was born as a managed service provider. This deep operational knowledge has allowed us to offer tailored, secure, and efficient data management solutions. We build our systems with security and governance as foundational elements, not as afterthoughts, which sets us apart in our ability to offer superior data protection and management.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future company goals? Altamimi pointed out:

“Looking ahead, we will be raising funding to scale the company. On the technology side, we aim to expand our cloud-agnostic solutions, allowing our services to be used across any platform. This flexibility will help us address a broader range of client needs and regulatory environments. We are also focusing on enhancing our data analytics capabilities, enabling clients to leverage their data more effectively in decision-making processes.”

Additional Thoughts

Any other topics to discuss? Altamimi concluded:

“I’d like to emphasize the importance of integrating compliance, visibility and control within the fabric of DataOps and AI. As data breaches become more common, it’s crucial that companies not only secure their data but also ensure they comply with evolving regulations. At RestorePoint.ai, we’re committed to leading by example in this area, constantly advancing our compliance measures to protect our clients and their data.”
