Sanjay Agrawal’s Background
What is Sanjay Agrawal’s background? Agrawal said:
“I earned two distinguished “Test of Time” awards over a decade, setting new industry standards during my tenure at Microsoft. After co-founding and while at ThoughtSpot, my pioneering work included developing a specialized database for analytics and introducing a push-based data recommendation system. I am always motivated by innovations that promise a 10x industry impact. With over 20 years of data, analytics, and AI experience, I have a rich background in organizational leadership and deep expertise in enterprise systems, covering high-performance databases, analytics, learning, and data recommendation systems. I was instrumental in shaping ThoughtSpot from its inception. I have a bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology and a master’s from the University of Wisconsin.”
Formation Of Revefi
How did the idea for the company come together? Agrawal shared:
“Several years ago at ThoughtSpot, we observed that organizations were struggling to deal with the increasing amount of data under their purview. My co-founder, Shashank, built a large-scale data quality platform at Meta. We wanted to help address the challenges modern data engineers face, and we believe that organizations must ensure that they have the necessary tools and resources to support their data initiatives and drive business success.”
“The role of the data engineer has evolved significantly, moving from a traditional focus on data pipeline management to a broad emphasis on scalable infrastructure, cloud optimization, spend management, and real-time data processing.”
“As organizations continue to rely on data-driven decision-making and explore the adoption of AI, the importance of modern data engineers will only grow and with that, Revefi was born.”
Favorite Memory
What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Agrawal reflected:
“As a founder, you relish every experience. My favorite memory to date has been when a Fortune 100 customer selected Revefi based on its technical merits, coverage of data use cases and scale over incumbent vendors in less than 2 hours.”

What are the company’s core products and features? Agrawal explained:
“Raden is an AI Data Engineer, and it augments data engineers with data architecture, system performance, optimization, and cost management expertise.”
“Raden as an autopilot or copilot augments your data team to ensure high quality of data, manage data pipelines, optimize data spend, and improve operational performance and efficiency.”
“Raden improves ROI from your data investments, delivering

Challenges Faced
What challenges have Agrawal and the team used in building the company? Agrawal acknowledged:
“The data quality, data observability, DataOp,s and FinOps markets have seen an influx of well-funded niche tool vendors with limited impact. Such niche tools cause customers to rethink their strategy. Revefi’s founding mission was always about providing solutions with clear ROI.”
Evolution Of Revefi’s Technology
How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Agrawal noted:
“In addition to expanding our support of Snowflake, we continue to add support for additional cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Redshift, Google BigQuery, and on-premises platforms. We have built support for business intelligence tools such as Looker and PowerBI.”
“Recently, we introduced Raden, the world’s first AI data engineer. Raden augments your team as an autoPilot or copilot with data architecture, system performance, optimization, and cost management expertise to solve data observability, data quality, FinOps, and DataOps use cases.”
Significant Milestones
What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Agrawal cited:
– September 2023 – $10.5 million seed funding
– September 2023 – Launch of Data Operations Cloud
– September 2024 – $20 million Series A funding
– September 2024 – Launch of Raden, the world’s first AI data engineer.
Customer Success Stories
When asking Agrawal about customer success stories, he highlighted:
“One of our customers, an F500 enterprise, could not manage data sprawl. By using Revefi, the data team is on track to save $200K on Snowflake spend and now has Automated Data Quality & observability, performance optimization as well!”
“Madhive, the leading technology company engineered for modern TV advertising, wanted to keep its business strong by providing quality vetted data to its downstream customers.”
“Madhive did not have a dedicated team to look at the individual resources, and it got messy very quickly. The team needed some holistic way to monitor and act and chose Revefi to:
– Untangle and make sense of its petabytes of sprawling data
– Do the work without a dedicated data team
– Get started with data monitoring quickly and without hassles
With Revefi, Madhive accomplished immediate data issue alerts and silent failure detection, all data-related monitoring within a single environment. It now serves as the foundation for data governance and retention policies.”
Funding
When asking Agrawal about the company’s funding details, he revealed:
“Revefi has raised $29 million in total. The new funds will fuel Revefi’s mission to use the power of AI to augment busy data teams and vastly improve organizations’ ROI from their data investments.”
