Revvity To Acquire Human Cell Design To Expand GLP-1 And Metabolic Drug Discovery Tools

Revvity has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Human Cell Design, adding human pancreatic beta cell models and other preclinical research technologies focused on diabetes, obesity and metabolic diseases.

Human Cell Design, or HCD, is a France-based biotechnology company specializing in human cell models and preclinical research solutions. The acquisition is expected to expand Revvity’s capabilities for drug discovery, screening and preclinical research, including next-generation GLP-1 and other metabolic disease therapies.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and required regulatory approvals.

HCD’s flagship product is EndoC-βH5, a human pancreatic beta cell model designed to help researchers study beta cell physiology and function in diabetes and obesity research.

HCD also provides specialized media and reagents, preclinical research services and NatLine, its proprietary cell-line development platform for producing functionally consistent human cell models.

Revvity plans to combine those capabilities with its existing technologies for cell analysis, detection, high-content screening, gene editing and automation.

HCD’s EndoC-βH5 cells can be used with Revvity technologies including HTRF and AlphaLISA assays to measure pharmacological readouts such as cAMP and insulin, pHSense technology for receptor internalization studies, and ATPlite assays for cell viability and proliferation.

The acquisition also reflects growing demand for biological models that more closely represent human physiology as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies increasingly combine traditional laboratory research with AI-powered drug discovery.

Revvity noted that human-relevant cell models can provide an important wet-lab validation layer for testing and confirming insights generated through AI-enhanced scientific research.

HCD’s technologies may also have applications beyond early drug discovery. The company has been involved in research supporting regenerative medicine for Type 1 diabetes and quality-control activities as cell-based therapies move closer to commercialization.

Revvity generated $2.9 billion of revenue in 2025, employs approximately 11,000 people and serves customers across pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, diagnostic laboratories, academia and governments in more than 160 countries.
