ROC has appointed Dr. Anil K. Jain, a prominent researcher in pattern recognition, computer vision and biometrics, to its Board of Directors as the Vision AI company continues expanding its biometric and identity intelligence capabilities.
Denver-based ROC (Rank One Computing Corporation) develops Vision AI technology combining biometrics, video analytics and digital evidence within a unified platform. The company is publicly traded on Nasdaq under the ticker ROC.
Jain brings five decades of research experience spanning pattern recognition, biometrics, computer vision and machine learning. His work has contributed to the development of biometric technologies used across government, security and commercial applications.
ROC said Jain’s scientific expertise aligns directly with the company’s strategy as it develops multimodal biometrics, identity intelligence and biometric security capabilities.
His addition comes as ROC works to advance its Vision AI platform across national security, public safety and commercial markets.
Jain spent most of his academic career at Michigan State University, beginning in 1974, and currently serves as a University Distinguished Professor.
His research has produced patented and licensed technologies that have been deployed in operational environments. Jain has also written extensively about biometrics and pattern recognition, including authoring 15 books.
Those works include Introduction to Biometrics, Handbook of Face Recognition, Handbook of Fingerprint Recognition and Algorithms for Clustering Data.
Jain also holds approximately a dozen patents.
During his academic career, he served as editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, a leading scientific journal covering areas including computer vision and biometrics.
Jain was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and has contributed to multiple U.S. National Academies panels, including groups examining face recognition technology, information technology laboratory assessment, biometrics and improvised explosive devices.
He has also served on the U.S. Defense Science Board, the Forensic Science Standards Board and the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s Latent Fingerprint Working Group.
Beyond his direct research contributions, Jain has mentored researchers and technology leaders who have gone on to contribute to the commercialization and development of biometric and artificial intelligence technologies.
He earned a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from The Ohio State University.
ROC said Jain’s appointment adds additional scientific expertise to its board at a period when the company is expanding its research-led product development strategy.
The company develops American-made Vision AI technology intended to convert visual information into operational intelligence for applications spanning defense, public safety and digital commerce.
ROC is headquartered in Denver and also maintains hubs in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Morgantown, West Virginia.
