Ropes & Gray: Noah Yavitz Added To Expand Commercial Litigation Practice In NY

By Amit Chowdhry ● Jan 29, 2026

Ropes & Gray announced it has added prominent New York-based litigator Noah Yavitz as a partner in its litigation & enforcement practice, continuing a recent run of lateral growth in the firm’s New York office.

The firm said Yavitz brings experience across complex commercial disputes, including high-stakes merger litigation, federal securities actions, and derivative claims involving corporate fiduciaries, as clients seek trial and appellate advocacy amid a demanding corporate litigation environment.

Ropes & Gray said Yavitz is the fourth partner to join the firm since the beginning of 2026 and the third partner addition in New York over that span.

Yavitz joins from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he became a partner in 2022 after joining the firm in 2014. Ropes & Gray said his matters have included prominent litigation and trial and appellate wins in federal and state courts, including the Delaware Court of Chancery.

The firm framed the hire as additive to its corporate and securities litigation capabilities, particularly in Delaware, and as part of a broader investment in its New York platform. Ropes & Gray also noted that its New York litigation practice added former federal prosecutor and white collar partner Sarah Coyne last year.

Ropes & Gray said it is marking the 25th anniversary of its New York office this year, describing it as a strategic hub and a foundation for expansion.

Yavitz earned his J.D. with high honors from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago. After law school, he clerked for Judge Frank Easterbrook of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Ropes & Gray said he also serves as a lecturer in law at Columbia Law School, where he teaches a course on complex, multijurisdictional litigation.
