Ropes & Gray announced that Maya Song has joined the firm as a partner in its data, privacy & cybersecurity practice, marking a significant expansion of its capabilities in regulatory enforcement, cybersecurity, and white-collar matters.
Song brings a blend of public- and private-sector experience, including more than a decade as a federal prosecutor. Most recently, she served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where she oversaw approximately 300 prosecutors and staff and advised on major national security and white-collar cases. Earlier in her Department of Justice career, she led the cybercrime unit in the same district.
In addition to her prosecutorial work, Song served as Senior Counsel to the U.S. Deputy Attorney General, advising on cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, and artificial intelligence issues. She also contributed to DOJ strategy and policy development and represented the department in National Security Council and Cyber Safety Review Board meetings.
Her arrival reflects growing client demand for legal expertise across cybersecurity, AI, digital assets, and complex regulatory environments. At Ropes & Gray, she is expected to enhance the firm’s cross-practice collaboration, crisis management capabilities, and ability to navigate high-stakes investigations and enforcement actions.
Before her government service, Song worked as a litigation attorney at major law firms and clerked for Judge Carl E. Stewart on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She earned her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and her B.F.A. from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
