RTX’s Raytheon Awarded Up To $24.4 Billion Contract For SM-6 Interceptors

Raytheon, an RTX business, has secured a multi-year contract valued at up to $24.4 billion for Standard Missile-6 interceptors, significantly expanding long-term production of the missile system for the U.S. Navy.

The agreement covers five years and includes two additional option years, giving Raytheon a potential seven-year production framework for SM-6 interceptors.

The contract is designed to provide the U.S. Navy with a more consistent and reliable supply of SM-6 missiles as demand increases for weapons capable of supporting both offensive and defensive missions.

The new order builds on previous long-term production agreements between Raytheon and the Department of War and represents a major effort to increase the availability of one of the Navy’s key missile systems.

SM-6 is designed to perform several missions from a common missile platform, including anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare and ballistic missile defense.

Raytheon describes SM-6 as the only combat-proven weapon capable of performing all three missions.

The missile has been successfully fired from multiple U.S. Navy ship-based platforms as well as land-based launchers, giving military operators flexibility in how the system is deployed against different types of threats.

The size and duration of the contract also provide Raytheon and its suppliers with greater visibility into future demand, supporting investments intended to increase manufacturing capacity.

Raytheon has been expanding its skilled workforce, strengthening relationships with suppliers throughout the defense industrial base and introducing additional automation into its manufacturing operations.

Those investments are intended to remove production constraints and support substantially higher SM-6 output for both near-term and longer-term requirements.

The SM-6 agreement follows other major multi-year missile production awards for Raytheon as the company and the U.S. government work to expand munitions production capacity.

Raytheon’s missile portfolio spans integrated air and missile defense, precision weapons, interceptors, hypersonic technologies and other systems used across land, air, sea and space.

RTX employs more than 180,000 people globally and generated more than $88 billion in sales in 2025.
