Rubrik Expands Identity Resilience Platform With Strata Acquisition And New Recovery Capabilities

Rubrik announced the expansion of its Identity Resilience platform with two new capabilities, Identity Continuity and Identity Roll Forward, designed to help organizations maintain authentication services and recover identity systems following cyberattacks.

Identity Continuity is being enabled through Rubrik’s acquisition of Strata.io, a company focused on identity orchestration technology. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Identity Roll Forward, meanwhile, was developed internally by Rubrik and is intended to provide organizations with the ability to recover Active Directory environments while preserving legitimate changes made to identity systems.

According to Rubrik, identity-based attacks remain a major concern for enterprises. Recent findings from Rubrik Zero Labs indicated that 90% of IT and security leaders view identity-related threats as their top concern.

The company said Identity Roll Forward addresses one of the major challenges organizations face when recovering compromised identity systems. Traditional recovery methods often require businesses to roll back to a clean state, potentially losing legitimate changes such as employee onboarding or offboarding. The new capability uses Rubrik intelligence and third-party signals to identify unauthorized changes while preserving valid modifications, reducing what the company said can otherwise involve weeks of manual reconstruction.

Identity Continuity, powered by Strata’s technology, enables automatic failover to a secondary identity provider when a primary provider becomes unavailable during an attack or outage. The capability is designed to allow users to maintain access to critical applications while recovery efforts are underway.

Strata specializes in identity orchestration and was founded to unify fragmented identity and access management infrastructures across multi-cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments without requiring customers to rewrite application code. The company was co-founded by Eric Olden, who helped create the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) identity federation standard that enables users to securely move between websites without repeated authentication. Strata’s Chief Technology Officer, Granville Schmidt, has chaired the JavaScript security working group.

Rubrik said the acquisition strengthens its position in identity resilience and expands its ability to address continuity, recovery, and agentic identity challenges. The company views Identity Continuity as a key missing component in building a comprehensive identity resilience platform.

Both Identity Roll Forward and Identity Continuity are currently available in private preview.

Rubrik, which describes itself as the Security and AI Operations Company, provides cyber resilience and data protection solutions across cloud environments and recently introduced several AI-focused products and capabilities through its Rubrik FORWARD event.

KEY QUOTES:

“When an IdP is compromised, organizations face an impossible choice: roll back to a past clean state and lose legitimate business progress or stay compromised and leave the attacker’s backdoors intact. Now, Rubrik eliminates this trade-off by not only recovering identity to a clean, current state to wipe out attacker persistence, but also keeping authentication running automatically if a primary IdP goes down.”

Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer, Rubrik

“Rubrik has built the most comprehensive offering for identity resilience, and Strata closes the most critical gap: Identity Continuity. Strata’s work on agentic identity along with our new combined team and shared focus on innovation and customer impact will define how the world achieves complete Identity Resilience.”
