RWS, the global AI solutions company listed on AIM, has acquired Obviously Group Limited, a next-generation integrated platform for enterprise intellectual property and brand integrity management, for initial cash consideration of £16.5 million with up to £23.5 million in additional deferred contingent consideration over three financial years, bringing total potential consideration to £40 million.
Headquartered in London, Obviously has built a platform serving enterprise legal, marketing, and finance teams, enabling them to track brand assets and IP rights, identify threats including counterfeits and copycats, protect brand integrity, and quantify the commercial impact of infringement. Its client base spans media and entertainment, technology, financial services, pharmaceuticals, and sport. The acquisition gives RWS a combined offering it is positioning as a single Global Brand Guardianship platform — one destination for enterprises to create, localize, register, monitor, and enforce their brands and IP across every market they operate in.
RWS describes the combined platform as the first solution to bring the full brand lifecycle, from creation through to enforcement, into a single unified system. Obviously will be integrated into RWS’s Protect segment, which focuses on safeguarding client IP globally. The deal is part of RWS’s broader strategic pivot toward becoming a technology-first business with holistic solutions for enterprise clients, complementing the company’s existing patent-focused IP business and its localization capabilities backed by more than 250,000 data specialists and 45 patents.
The acquisition expands RWS’s addressable market by combining Obviously’s AI-driven brand monitoring and enforcement intelligence with the scale and global client reach of a company trusted by more than 80 of the world’s top 100 brands.
