Saab: SEK 1 Billion Order Secured For New Gripen Launch System

By Amit Chowdhry • Nov 6, 2025

Saab announced that it has received a new production order valued at approximately SEK 1 billion from the Swedish Defence Materiel Agency for launch systems that will be used on the Gripen C/D and Gripen E fighter aircraft. The order follows an option contained in a previously established contract covering the development and integration of the system.

The launch system enables Gripen aircraft to carry air-to-air missiles and countermeasure pods. It is installed on the aircraft’s weapons pylons and is equipped with technology that facilitates communication between the mounted weapons and the aircraft’s systems. The system plays a role in maintaining operational readiness and supporting the Swedish Air Force’s long-term tactical capabilities.

The order supports ongoing efforts to ensure the continued availability and modernization of the Gripen platform. Saab will conduct the work within its Aeronautics business area.

Saab is a global defense and security company employing around 26,000 people. The company develops and produces systems across aeronautics, command and control, sensors, weapons, and underwater technologies, with operations in multiple countries and a role in national defense partnerships worldwide. Saab is headquartered in Sweden.
