Safe Superintelligence and NVIDIA have entered into a long-term strategic partnership intended to accelerate SSI’s artificial intelligence research and substantially expand its computing capacity.
NVIDIA also made an investment in SSI, although the companies did not disclose the amount, valuation or other financial terms.
The partnership will give SSI access to NVIDIA’s next-generation Vera Rubin computing platform. SSI said the infrastructure will increase its available compute by approximately an order of magnitude, supporting the expansion of research it has conducted privately over the past two years.
The companies will also collaborate on the technical advancement of NVIDIA’s current and future computing platforms. SSI is expected to provide NVIDIA with research insights that could influence how future systems are designed for increasingly capable AI models.
SSI was founded in 2024 with the sole objective of developing what it describes as safe superintelligence. Unlike AI companies pursuing multiple commercial products, SSI has positioned itself as a focused research laboratory working toward one long-term technical goal.
The company is led by co-founders Ilya Sutskever and Daniel Levy. Sutskever previously contributed to major AI developments involving AlexNet, sequence-to-sequence learning, AlphaGo, GPT models and reasoning systems.
NVIDIA said it entered the partnership after receiving unusual access to SSI’s closely guarded research. The collaboration indicates that SSI believes its current research direction has reached a stage where significantly greater computing resources could generate additional progress.
Advanced AI research requires large clusters of processors to train, test and evaluate increasingly complex models. Access to NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform could allow SSI to conduct larger experiments, process more data and explore approaches that were previously constrained by computing availability.
For NVIDIA, the relationship provides an opportunity to work closely with a research organization focused on future AI architectures. Feedback from SSI could help the semiconductor company refine hardware and software for emerging model designs and research workloads.
SSI’s existing investors include Andreessen Horowitz, DST Global, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital.
