Saipem Wins $3.1 Billion Share Of QatarEnergy LNG Offshore EPCI Award

Saipem announced it has been awarded an offshore engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract in Qatar as part of the North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) Offshore Compression Complexes project, with the company’s share valued at approximately $3.1 billion.

The contract was awarded by QatarEnergy LNG for the COMP5 package and will be executed by Saipem in partnership with Offshore Oil Engineering Co. Ltd. (COOEC). Saipem said the overall value of the contract is about $4.0 billion, reflecting the combined scope to be delivered by the partnership.

NFPS is tied to QatarEnergy LNG’s strategy to maintain and increase production capacity from the North Field, described by the company as the world’s largest non-associated natural gas field located offshore Qatar’s north-eastern coast.

Saipem said the COMP5 contract has an expected duration of roughly five years and covers the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and installation of two offshore compression complexes. Each complex is expected to include a compression platform, a living quarters platform, a flare platform supporting the gas combustion system, and interconnecting bridges. Saipem added that each complex will weigh about 68,000 tons.

Offshore installation operations are expected to be carried out by Saipem’s De He construction vessel in 2029 and 2030, according to the company.

The award follows prior EPCI packages on the same broader program. Saipem noted it previously received the COMP2 and COMP3 packages, disclosed in October 2022 and September 2024, respectively, and said those projects are currently under execution. Saipem characterized the latest award as further cementing its relationship with QatarEnergy LNG and reinforcing its presence in Qatar for large-scale offshore developments.

Saipem is a global engineering and construction contractor serving the energy and infrastructure sectors, with operations across offshore and onshore markets. The company said it operates five fabrication yards, an offshore fleet of 17 owned construction vessels, and 12 drilling rigs (nine owned), and employs about 30,000 people across more than 50 countries.
