Salesforce Acquires m3ter to Expand Consumption-Based Monetization Capabilities for the AI Era

Salesforce announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire m3ter, a metering and rating platform designed for consumption-based monetization. The acquisition will enhance Agentforce Revenue Management with native capabilities for high-volume mediation, metering, and rating, enabling enterprises to launch and manage flexible usage- and outcome-based pricing models.

The move comes as artificial intelligence drives a shift away from traditional subscription pricing toward consumption-based business models. By integrating m3ter’s technology, Salesforce aims to provide customers with additional options for monetizing products and services without leaving the Salesforce platform.

m3ter’s platform is designed to operate at enterprise scale and near real time, allowing organizations to ingest product usage data, configure billing scenarios dynamically, and automate monetization workflows across CRM, ERP, and quote-to-cash systems.

Founded to address the complexities of usage-based pricing, m3ter has leveraged more than a decade of experience in building cloud-based backend services. Through the acquisition, the company’s technology will be made available to Salesforce’s broad enterprise customer base.

The transaction is expected to close during the second quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.
