  • Salesforce has reportedly promoted Justin Maguire III to the role of chief design officer — who previously served as EVP of product design and user experience

Salesforce has promoted Justin Maguire III to the role of chief design officer, according to the San Francisco Business Times. The promotion was disclosed internally. Prior to this promotion, Maguire was the EVP of product design and user experience.

Maguire and Salesforce President and Chief Operating Officer Bret Taylor have been working closely to determine the duties and responsibilities of the new role over the past six months.

Ever since the company launched, Salesforce Chairman & Co-CEO Marc Benioff has been heavily involved in product design.

“Marc and the company have a strong commitment to design and the customer experience,” said Maguire at the McKinsey Design presentation in an interview with the San Francisco Business Times. “When they hired me four-and-a-half years ago at the EVP level, hiring an EVP of design was unusual.”

As Salesforce is being used by millions of users, the importance of having intuitive products with user-friendly designs has become essential for the company. And Salesforce’s events, forums, and AppExchange have become major platforms for third parties to launch and scale their platforms thus making meticulous design principles even more important.

“Every touchpoint with the company is part of the user experience,” Maguire added in the interview.
