Salzgitter Expands Defense Portfolio With Thyrolf & Uhle Acquisition

By Amit Chowdhry ● Feb 16, 2026

Salzgitter is expanding its presence in the defense sector through the acquisition of Thyrolf & Uhle GmbH, a long-established metal-processing specialist based in Dessau-Roßlau.

The move strengthens Salzgitter AG’s presence in a growing European defense market and enhances its technical capabilities in processing high-security steels for military and infrastructure applications.

Founded in 1859, Thyrolf & Uhle has built a reputation for comprehensive materials expertise and advanced metal processing. The company employs approximately 100 skilled workers and processes more than 12,000 tons of steel annually, making it one of the most efficient operators in its niche. Its services span steel construction, component construction, and sheet metal processing.

A key strategic benefit of the acquisition lies in Thyrolf & Uhle’s certifications and qualifications. The company is certified to process parts made of security steels in accordance with TL-2350-0000 and holds manufacturer qualification under DIN 2303 Q3 BK. These credentials enable Salzgitter to better serve customers in the expanding defense sector.

Thyrolf & Uhle processes security steels in the 400, 450, 500, and 600 SECURE grades and supplies steel components and assemblies for infrastructure protection as well as civil and military vehicle construction. Demand in these segments has increased across Germany and Europe amid shifting geopolitical conditions.

By integrating Thyrolf & Uhle’s capabilities, Salzgitter AG aims to complement and broaden its existing portfolio in steel and component construction while reinforcing its position in a strategically important growth market.

The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. The companies have agreed not to disclose financial terms.
