San Francisco-based error monitoring and developer debugging company Rollbar announced that it has acquired Budapest-based Samebug. Rollbar plans to integrate Samebug’s platform into its own error monitoring solutions. And the acquisition will help Rollbar quickly grow its engineering team and have greater accessibility to European customers.
“This acquisition really helps Rollbar solidify its position as the leading player in its space,” said Bain Capital Ventures managing director Salil Deshpande — who oversaw a $6 million Series A funding round for Rollbar. “Real-time error monitoring solutions are quickly becoming an essential part of every development team’s ‘toolkit’ and the integration of Samebug technology and expertise make Rollbar the clear choice for engineering teams of any size.”
According to InfoQ, debugging takes up 50% of the development cycle and it is often considered twice as hard as writing the initial code. Rollbar helps solve this problem by enabling developers and DevOps teams to monitor errors in real-time as new software is being written. The right team is also notified about the errors.
Samebug was founded by CEO Renáta Tamási-Irsai and CTO Árpád Tamási. Renáta will now become Country Manager for Hungary at Rollbar and Árpád will become Director of Engineering at Rollbar. And lead backend developer Daniel Poroszkai will become a lead engineer at Rollbar.
“We are very excited to be part of the Rollbar family and ready to tackle the challenges associated with this fast-growing market,” added Renáta in a statement. “Our goal is to change how developers, in any industry, code and debug, providing solutions to software problems (crashes) automatically whenever it’s needed, in a form it’s needed.”
Rollbar offers automatic error detection and analysis centered around a proprietary and customizable grouping engine. And its solution also offers workflow control capabilities that allow users to track issues through to resolution and automatically detect regressions. Some of Rollbar’s customers include Salesforce, Twilio, Uber, Instacart, Kayak, and Lyft.
“Our grouping engine is what really sets us apart from the competition, and integrating Samebug’s technology further enhances this functionality,” explained Rollbar CEO Brian Rue. “The Samebug team brings deep knowledge of the space to Rollbar and is already helping us deliver more value to customers.”
