Santé Raises $15 Million Series A To Expand AI Operating System For Wine And Spirits Retail

Santé has raised $15 million in Series A funding to expand its AI and fintech operating system for wine and spirits retailers, six months after announcing a $7.6 million seed round. The financing was led by FINTOP, with participation from returning investors Bonfire Ventures, Operator Collective, Y Combinator and Veridical Ventures.

Santé said its business has grown 500% during a period of rapid expansion. The platform now serves nearly 1,000 retailers that collectively process approximately $2 billion in annual gross merchandise value.

The New York-based company is building an operating system designed specifically for independent wine and liquor stores, combining point-of-sale functionality with e-commerce, delivery app management, marketing, subscriptions and other retail operations.

Santé plans to use the Series A financing to further develop autonomous AI tools intended to help retailers increase revenue, improve margins, and reduce the amount of manual work required to operate their businesses.

The company is targeting operational challenges that can be particularly complex for wine and spirits retailers, including local tax requirements, state-specific regulations, keg returns, inventory management and product-level merchandising.

Santé said those pressures have become more difficult to manage as retailers contend with labor shortages and rising operating costs.

Rather than layering AI onto a single retail function, Santé is using data generated across its platform to power AI agents that can perform or assist with tasks spanning receiving, ordering, marketing, search engine optimization and employee scheduling.

One of the company’s tools is an AI Merchandising Agent designed to identify slow-moving inventory and recommend pricing and promotional strategies based on each store’s item-level sales data.

Santé said approximately 25% of goods can take 12 months or longer to become profitable, creating an opportunity for retailers to use data-driven merchandising strategies to turn stagnant inventory into cash flow more quickly.

The platform also includes AI-powered invoice processing that scans distributor invoices and automatically updates inventory levels and unit costs, reducing the need for manual data entry.

Santé’s Marketing Agent analyzes purchase history to segment customers and launch targeted email and SMS campaigns around products, events and discounts.

For e-commerce operations, the platform can automatically generate SEO-optimized product descriptions and images for large catalogs of wine, beer and spirits products.

Santé also integrates orders from delivery platforms including DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and Instacart directly into the retailer’s point-of-sale environment.

Its Employee Scheduling Agent uses store-level sales patterns to help determine staffing requirements across different roles and days of the week, with the goal of matching labor levels more closely with expected customer demand.

The platform also incorporates features designed specifically for the wine and spirits industry, including bottle and keg tracking, vintage management and support for complex mix-and-match case discounts.

Santé is now seeking to move beyond helping retailers automate administrative tasks and toward creating AI agents that can act more proactively on behalf of store owners.

The company’s longer-term strategy includes developing tools that can identify potential sales opportunities, re-engage customers who have stopped purchasing and recommend actions intended to improve store profitability.

The Series A follows Santé’s $7.6 million seed announcement by only six months, reflecting the company’s accelerating adoption among independent retailers.

KEY QUOTES:

“When we started Santé, our mission was to eliminate the operational headaches that plague independent wine and liquor retailers. Now that we’ve spent the last year showing that, we want to build a growth engine that proactively drives sales, re-engages lapsed customers, and actively boosts the bottom line of our customers.”

Darren Fike, CEO of Santé

“It’s rare to find a founder and team at this stage that have both proven the solution is superior and are executing at an elite velocity in a massive, complex vertical. The team has built intuitive and practical AI back office workflows, with embedded fintech throughout the platform, so store owners aren’t simply getting another tool to track inventory. They’re getting an intelligent platform that directly expands their profit margins and operational scale.”
