Saronic Technologies plans to invest approximately $3.2 billion at the Port of Brownsville, creating as many as 10,000 jobs at full buildout and establishing one of the largest economic development projects in the history of Brownsville, Texas. The project is expected to expand Brownsville’s advanced manufacturing and maritime technology sectors while creating new career opportunities for residents throughout Cameron County.

Saronic develops autonomous surface vessels and related maritime defense technologies. Its planned presence at the Port of Brownsville is expected to strengthen the region’s position as a center for advanced manufacturing, maritime innovation, defense technology and large-scale industrial development.

The Greater Brownsville Economic Development Corporation welcomed the investment following announcements from the Texas Governor’s Office and the Port of Brownsville.

Local officials said the project could help diversify Brownsville’s economy while generating opportunities for workers, suppliers, contractors and businesses across the surrounding region.

At full buildout, Saronic’s operations are expected to support 10,000 jobs. These positions could span manufacturing, engineering, technology, operations, logistics, maintenance and other functions associated with the development and production of advanced maritime systems.

Brownsville officials said local universities, colleges and workforce development organizations are coordinating their efforts to prepare residents for the anticipated job growth.

The Greater Brownsville EDC has committed $10 million toward workforce development initiatives connected with the project. The funding is intended to help local workers develop the technical and professional skills required for the positions Saronic expects to create.

The organization worked with the Port of Brownsville, Cameron County and Point Isabel Independent School District during the recruitment process.

Beyond Saronic’s direct capital investment and employment plans, the project is expected to generate approximately $168.4 billion in economic impact across Cameron County over its lifetime.

Construction activity is projected to produce approximately $1.6 billion in economic activity. Once operations are established, the project is expected to generate approximately $5.6 billion in annual economic activity over a 30-year operating period.

The projections include the effects of employee spending, supplier activity, construction work, business services and other economic activity generated by the company’s presence in the region.

The project is also expected to produce more than $203 million in fiscal impact for the City of Brownsville. Local officials said the additional revenue could strengthen the city’s ability to invest in public services, infrastructure and other community priorities.

Saronic’s investment arrives as Brownsville seeks to build a more diverse and resilient economy around its port, aerospace activity, manufacturing sector and proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Port of Brownsville provides access to maritime transportation, industrial property and logistics infrastructure. The region has also attracted major technology and industrial employers, including SpaceX, contributing to the development of a broader advanced manufacturing ecosystem.

To support further growth, the Greater Brownsville EDC is developing the Greater Brownsville Tech Park, a planned 700-acre industrial development designed to accommodate manufacturers, suppliers, and other businesses serving companies such as Saronic and SpaceX.

The industrial park is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen regional supply chains and attract businesses seeking to locate near Brownsville’s growing aerospace, maritime, defense and advanced manufacturing industries.

The development could provide space for component manufacturers, logistics providers, technology companies and other suppliers that support large industrial employers.

Greater Brownsville EDC said its involvement will continue beyond the initial project announcement. The organization plans to assist Saronic with workforce development, partnerships, supplier connections and other resources intended to support the company’s long-term operations.

Local officials expect the project to create benefits beyond direct employment at Saronic. Increased business activity could support restaurants, housing, transportation providers, professional services firms, construction companies and other employers throughout Cameron County.

The investment could also provide additional reasons for young people raised in the region to remain in Brownsville or return after completing their education.

By connecting residents with training and employment opportunities, local leaders aim to ensure that the project’s economic benefits translate into long-term careers and household income growth.

The project remains focused on a full-buildout plan, meaning the investment, job creation and economic impact are expected to develop over time as facilities are constructed and operations expand.
