Airbus announced that Scandinavian carrier SAS has placed a firm order for 18 Airbus A330-900 aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet renewal strategy.
The agreement was signed in Copenhagen by Anko van der Werff, CEO of SAS, and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft.
The aircraft will support SAS’ international network expansion by enabling the airline to increase capacity on existing high-demand global routes and introduce new routes.
The A330-900 is part of the Airbus A330neo family and is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. Airbus said the aircraft is designed to fly up to 8,100 nautical miles, or 15,000 kilometers, nonstop.
Airbus said the A330neo reduces fuel burn, CO2 emissions, and operating costs by 25% compared to previous-generation competitor aircraft. The aircraft also features the Airbus Airspace cabin, which is designed to provide passengers and crews with a modern and comfortable in-flight experience.
Like all Airbus aircraft, the A330 family is already able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Airbus has a target of reaching 100% SAF capability by 2030.
As of the end of May 2026, the Airbus A330 Family had received more than 1,950 orders from 133 customers worldwide.
The order reinforces SAS’ continued partnership with Airbus and supports the airline’s efforts to modernize its fleet with aircraft designed for long-haul efficiency, flexibility, and improved environmental performance.
