Favorite Memory
What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Dr. Kohli reflected:
“While there have been many great moments in these initial months, a particularly impactful one was a conversation with a key customer. They were explaining how our platform, with its ability to execute tests with high confidence and speed on the largest variety of bundled-in physical and virtual endpoints and comprehensive end-to-end capabilities, was vital in their ability to accelerate a critical product launch. Hearing firsthand how Sauce Labs directly enabled them to innovate faster and deliver a seamless experience to their millions of users was a powerful reminder of the tangible impact we have. It’s those moments, where you see the direct line from our team’s dedication to our customers’ success, that are truly my favorite.”
Core Products
What are the company’s core products and features? Dr. Kohli explained:
“Sauce Labs delivers a comprehensive platform for achieving ‘digital confidence,’ enabling businesses to release top-quality software experiences with speed. Our core includes extensive mobile and web testing across a vast range of real devices and browsers, robust visual testing for UI perfection, and insightful error reporting for quick issue resolution. We also streamline mobile app distribution. We’re continually advancing our platform with intelligent analytics, and a key focus of our ongoing innovation is the deeper integration of AI-driven capabilities to further optimize testing and provide powerful actionable insights in real time. Ultimately, we offer a unified solution for continuous quality across the entire software lifecycle.”
Challenges Faced
Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Dr. Kohli acknowledged:
“The core challenge is universal: businesses need to deliver increasingly complex applications at an unprecedented speed, without compromising the quality of the digital experience. This means navigating a vast landscape of user expectations across all devices, browsers or other kinds of endpoints on which they operate.”
“Imagine a bank that must guarantee a deposit or a transfer occurred when a user initiated it, under almost any conditions, or even that a bill got paid on time. Or a clinic that must make sure that prescriptions correctly made their way to the local pharmacy. Or an airline that must guarantee that tickets were purchased correctly, check-ins occurred when the button was pressed etc. I can go on and on about the fundamental ways that we at Sauce Labs help ascertain if software is performing as designed. We address this by providing a comprehensive and scalable platform that simplifies test automation across a wide variety of technologies, user devices and browsers and offers deep insights into application quality. While we’re continuously advancing our analytics, a major part of our strategy involves the thoughtful integration of AI to further optimize testing and enhance efficiency. This focus on a unified approach, extensive coverage, and intelligent automation empowers our customers to overcome these hurdles and build true digital confidence.”
Evolution Of The Company’s Technology
How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Dr. Kohli noted:
“Since our journey began in 2008, Sauce Labs has transformed from a pioneering provider of cloud-based test automation into a comprehensive digital assurance platform. Founded by the creators of Selenium, we initially focused on making web test automation accessible through the cloud. We then quickly embraced the mobile-first world, significantly expanding our capabilities to include extensive support for mobile app testing, including offering access to thousands of real devices, emulators, and simulators—a foundation that has now supported over eight billion tests run on our platform.”
“Our evolution has always been driven by the needs of engineering teams to deliver quality at speed. This led us to broaden our offerings significantly beyond functional tests to include visual testing, robust error reporting, and support for API testing. More recently, our technology roadmap is heavily geared towards providing deeper, actionable insights from test data, and we are strategically integrating AI-driven intelligence to enhance test creation, identify patterns, and help teams optimize their entire testing lifecycle for greater efficiency and confidence.”
Significant Milestones
What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Dr. Kohli cited:
“Sauce Labs has marked its journey with several key achievements that underscore our growth and leadership. Reaching the milestone of over eight billion tests conducted on our platform speaks volumes about the trust developers place in us and the sheer scale of our operations. Our ability to innovate and expand has been significantly bolstered by strong investor confidence, translating into strategic advancements. This includes pivotal acquisitions like API Fortress and TestFairy, which broadened our comprehensive testing capabilities into critical areas like API and mobile performance.”
“This continuous evolution of our platform and our commitment to quality has earned us recognition as a Leader in industry assessments like the IDC MarketScape for Worldwide Mobile Testing and Digital Quality. Each of these milestones reflects our deep commitment to empowering businesses to deliver flawless digital experiences.”
Customer Success Stories
Can you share any specific customer success stories? Dr. Kohli highlighted:
“Our customers’ success is the ultimate measure of our own, and we’re incredibly proud of the partnerships we’ve built. For example, Walmart, a global retail leader, faced challenges with slow, manual testing that limited their deployments. By leveraging Sauce Labs to scale their automated testing, they now run over 50,000 automated tests daily, have accelerated deployments from twice a month to multiple times per day, and in one year alone, saved over 750,000 person-hours.”
“Then there’s Gannett, the media giant behind the USA TODAY Network. They were struggling with time-consuming manual testing. By adopting Sauce Labs for test automation, they achieved a stunning 92% reduction in test execution time—processes that took hours now take minutes—leading to significant cost savings and freeing up resources for innovation.”
“And in the gaming world, Crytek needed to ensure game stability for a rapidly growing player base. Using Sauce Error Reporting, they were able to reduce their error monitoring costs by 75% and significantly improve game stability, allowing their developers to focus on innovation rather than just finding bugs.”
“These are just a few examples, but they illustrate a common theme: Sauce Labs empowers companies across industries to accelerate innovation, enhance software quality, and achieve true digital confidence in their releases.”
Funding/Revenue
Are you able to discuss funding and/or revenue metrics? Dr. Kohli revealed:
“In terms of funding, Sauce Labs has successfully raised significant capital to fuel our growth and innovation, with publicly reported figures indicating a total of around $228 million invested by leading firms. This has been instrumental in expanding our platform capabilities and market reach.”
“As for revenue, like many privately held companies, we don’t publicly disclose specific revenue metrics.”
Total Addressable Market (TAM)
What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Dr. Kohli assessed:
“For Sauce Labs, almost every software vendor is a potential customer, and hence we operate with a very significant and expanding Total Addressable Market. The overall global software testing market is substantial—reports indicate it was valued at over $50 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to over $80 billion by 2029.”
