The Charles Schwab Corporation reported $13.04 trillion in total client assets at the end of July 2026 as core net new assets reached $58.1 billion, a record for the month of July and a 24% increase from a year earlier.
Total client assets increased 19% from July 2025 and were relatively unchanged from June 2026, when Schwab reported approximately $13.08 trillion.
Overall net new assets totaled $60.1 billion during July, up 32% from $45.7 billion a year earlier. Core net new assets declined 7% sequentially from $62.7 billion in June but remained well above the prior-year level.
Schwab also opened 417,000 new brokerage accounts during July, representing an 11% increase from the 377,000 accounts opened in July 2025.
The company ended the month with approximately 39.94 million active brokerage accounts, up 6% year over year. Schwab also had roughly 5.92 million workplace plan participant accounts and 2.38 million banking accounts.
Trading activity remained elevated. Client daily average trades totaled approximately 11.65 million in July, up 61% from approximately 7.25 million a year earlier, although activity declined 14% from June’s 13.62 million daily average trades.
Derivatives represented 20.6% of total trades during July, compared with 21.3% a year earlier and 17.7% in June.
Schwab reported $169.9 billion in margin balances at the end of July, up 51% from year-end 2025 and 92% from July 2025. The balance also increased approximately 3% from $165.1 billion in June.
The company’s Schwab Trading Activity Index, or STAX, increased to 59.8 in July from 59.1 in June and 41.8 a year earlier, reflecting continued investor engagement across Schwab accounts.
Transactional sweep cash declined by $8.9 billion during July to $476.8 billion. Schwab attributed the decrease to client net purchasing activity and typical seasonality associated with advisory fee payments.
Despite the monthly decline, transactional sweep cash remained 17% higher than the $407.5 billion reported in July 2025. Total money market fund balances stood at $695.3 billion, up 6% year over year.
Client cash represented 9% of total client assets at the end of July, compared with 9.7% a year earlier.
Schwab also continued to report growth in assets receiving ongoing advisory services. Investor Services advisory assets reached approximately $933.7 billion, up 25% from July 2025, while Advisor Services assets receiving ongoing advisory services increased 21% to approximately $5.76 trillion.
Client investment activity continued to favor exchange-traded funds. Schwab handled approximately $36.3 billion of net ETF purchases during July, while mutual funds recorded approximately $6 billion of net selling activity.
The July figures highlight continued asset gathering, account growth and elevated trading engagement across Schwab’s platform, with the company now approaching 40 million active brokerage accounts while overseeing more than $13 trillion in client assets.
