Seal Shield, a manufacturer of hygienic medical-grade devices, announced it has acquired Vioguard, a Washington State-based developer of UV-C keyboard and device sanitization technologies. The acquisition expands Seal Shield’s portfolio of healthcare hygiene solutions and strengthens its position in technologies designed to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

Vioguard was founded in 2008 when a group of former Microsoft employees acquired Microsoft’s research and intellectual property related to ultraviolet light for eliminating bacteria on keyboards. The company went on to develop the first FDA-approved UV sanitization system specifically designed for computer keyboards.

With the acquisition, Seal Shield will integrate Vioguard’s automated UV sanitization technology with its existing line of hygienic hardware and UV products. The intellectual property associated with Vioguard’s technology will also complement Seal Shield’s existing patent portfolio and product development strategy.

Independent research led by Dr. Curtis Donskey and teams at Case Western Reserve University and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center evaluated Vioguard’s sanitization system. The research concluded that the technology may help reduce the spread of viruses and bacteria commonly found on shared keyboards in healthcare environments, including Ebola, influenza strains, and C. diff.

Seal Shield plans to showcase the Vioguard UV sanitization system at the HIMSS26 trade show scheduled for March 10–12 in Las Vegas. The technology will be featured alongside other products in Seal Shield’s UV portfolio, including the ElectroClave UV clinical device management system and the CleanSlate UV rapid sanitization solution.

Seal Shield specializes in hygienic healthcare technologies, including waterproof keyboards and mice, chemical- and UV-resistant screen protectors, and UV-C sanitization systems for hospitals and other high-demand environments.
