Seal Shield, a provider of hygienic healthcare technology and medical-grade devices, announced the strategic acquisition of Vioguard, a Washington State-based company known for its ultraviolet C keyboard sanitization systems and device sanitization technologies.
The asset acquisition strengthens Seal Shield’s portfolio of hygienic healthcare solutions and expands its capabilities in technologies designed to combat healthcare-associated infections. By integrating Vioguard’s ultraviolet sanitization technology, Seal Shield aims to expand its range of solutions to help reduce contamination risks from shared workstations and devices in healthcare settings.
Vioguard was founded in 2008 when a group of Microsoft employees acquired Microsoft research and intellectual property related to ultraviolet light technology used to eradicate bacteria on keyboards. The company later developed the first FDA-approved ultraviolet sanitization system designed specifically for keyboards.
The acquisition brings Vioguard’s intellectual property and technology into Seal Shield’s product ecosystem, complementing the company’s existing ultraviolet sanitization offerings and supporting its broader patent portfolio and product development strategy.
Independent research evaluating Vioguard’s automated sanitization technology was conducted by Dr. Curtis Donskey and researchers from Case Western Reserve University and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. The evaluation found that the system may help reduce the spread of pathogens including Ebola, influenza strains, and C. diff, which are often found on shared computer keyboards in healthcare settings.
Seal Shield plans to showcase the Vioguard ultraviolet sanitization system at the HIMSS26 tradeshow in Las Vegas from March 10 to 12. The system will be displayed alongside Seal Shield’s existing ultraviolet solutions, including the ElectroClave UV clinical device management system and the CleanSlate UV rapid sanitization platform.
Seal Shield designs and manufactures hygienic technology products such as waterproof keyboards and mice, chemical and ultraviolet resistant screen protectors, and ultraviolet sanitization solutions for healthcare and other high demand environments.
