Senzing, a provider of real-time entity resolution technology, has acquired the Placekey service and technology, bringing the open, community-supported identifier standard for places data under Senzing’s ownership. The companies said the transaction aligns with Senzing’s goal of making data more interoperable and easier to connect across organizations and datasets.
Placekey is designed to help organizations match, analyze, and enrich location information by providing a universal identifier for physical places, reducing friction that often comes with address matching and location data integration. Senzing said Placekey will remain freely available and open, while benefiting from added resources intended to accelerate innovation and support expanded use cases where accurate location data is foundational for analytics, AI, and agentic workflows.
Senzing said Placekey will continue operating as a wholly owned subsidiary, maintaining its identity and independence during the transition. Over the coming months, Placekey’s services and operations are expected to move fully under Senzing, with continuity for existing users and partners emphasized.
The acquisition brings together two complementary approaches to data linkage. Senzing’s core platform focuses on entity resolution, which organizations use to connect records about people, organizations, and relationships across multiple sources. Placekey applies a similar concept to the physical world by enabling the standardized joining of place-based datasets, which can be difficult when addresses vary, data is incomplete, or sources use different formatting and conventions.
The financial terms of the acquisition were undisclosed.
