Sequoia Financial Group Expands In California With Acquisition Of $406 Million Firm Sterling Financial

By Amit Chowdhry • Dec 4, 2025

Sequoia Financial Group has acquired Pasadena-based Sterling Financial Group, deepening its West Coast presence and adding $406 million in AUM to its growing national wealth management platform.

The deal brings Sterling’s seven-person advisory team, serving 200 clients across more than a dozen states, into Sequoia’s organization. Sterling owner and managing principal Michael Hatch and principal advisor Kody Brown are now equity owners in Sequoia. Terms were not disclosed.

Akron-based Sequoia, which manages $29.9 billion in assets as of September 30, 2025, said the acquisition strengthens its foothold in California, the firm’s first standalone office in the state following its 2024 wealth management partnership with accounting firm Eide Bailly.

Sequoia has accelerated its rollup strategy over the last two years, executing 11 acquisitions since 2023—including Zeke Capital Advisors, Cirrus Wealth Management, Affinia Financial Group, M Capital Advisors, AltruVista, Karpas Strategies, Family Asset Management, Eide Bailly Wealth, Carlson Capital Management, and The Martin Worley Group.

Founded in 1991, Sequoia now supports more than 11,500 households and continues to expand its family-office capabilities following the 2023 launch of Sequoia Sentinel.
