Seragy Holding has secured €12 million in financing to accelerate development of its proprietary SeRAS platform and expand its laboratory and analytical capabilities for neurodegenerative diseases and other conditions driven by pathological protein aggregation.
The financing is backed by Commerzbank, the Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft, or MBG, and the State of Lower Saxony. The package combines debt financing, equity capital, and public funding and will support expansion of Seragy’s laboratory operations, analytical capabilities, and team in Hanover, Germany.
Seragy develops quantitative biomarkers for proteopathies, diseases characterized by abnormal protein aggregation. These include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The company said such diseases can exhibit substantial molecular heterogeneity, including different disease subtypes that conventional testing technologies may struggle to distinguish or quantify precisely.
Its proprietary SeRAS, or Seed Replication, Analysis and Subtyping, technology is designed to generate quantitative molecular fingerprints of pathological protein aggregates from patient samples. The platform combines seeding-based biochemistry with high-sensitivity optics, automated data analysis, software algorithms, and micromechanical components.
At the center of the platform is the MetisOne Analyzer, which Seragy has designed to enable quantitative and reproducible measurement of protein aggregates. Rather than primarily generating qualitative or binary detection results, the company is developing SeRAS to characterize aggregation patterns, distinguish molecular subtypes, and measure biological changes over the course of disease.
Seragy plans to use these capabilities to support pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies from early drug discovery through preclinical and clinical development. The company intends to expand its presence in European and international markets while deepening collaborations with industry partners developing therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.
Separately, Seragy is one of five recipients of funding from The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research through its Seed Amplification Assay Innovation Program. That support is being used to develop and evaluate a quantitative SeRAS-based biomarker assay for Parkinson’s disease.
The company was founded in 2022 as Prosperodes GmbH and later became Seragy Holding. It is led by Dr. Christiane Ritter and Dr. Thorsten Lührs, scientists with nearly three decades of experience in protein aggregation research, along with business and finance executive Arne Ungruh.
KEY QUOTES:
“This financing provides the foundation for us to transform how pathological protein aggregation is measured and understood. Together with our highly qualified interdisciplinary team, we will continue advancing SeRAS as a next-generation biomarker platform that makes aggregation processes measurable and biologically interpretable. Through our global collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners, SeRAS provides insights informing therapeutic strategies and helps accelerate the development of effective treatments for patients with proteopathies. We thank Commerzbank, the MBG, and the State of Lower Saxony for their trust and commitment to our technology.”
Dr. Thorsten Lührs, Managing Partner For Strategy & Innovation And Co-Founder Of Seragy
“seragy combines scientific excellence and a clear vision with a highly innovative technology platform for addressing a critical challenge in developing treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. By advancing cutting-edge technologies that ultimately help patients, companies like seragy demonstrate how a strong innovation ecosystem in Lower Saxony can contribute to the future of healthcare worldwide.”
