Serval acquired software supply chain security company Ensignia and appointed its founder and CEO, Sam Stewart, as Head of Security.
Stewart will oversee Serval’s security operations across detection and response, corporate security, application security, and infrastructure security.
His responsibilities will also include the guardrails, permissions, and audit trails governing how Serval’s AI automation agents interact with customer systems.
Serval operates an AI-native enterprise service management platform that helps companies automate employee support and workflows across IT and other business functions.
Its customers include companies such as Fox, Live Nation, Notion, Legora, Clay, and Mercor.
Ensignia focuses on software supply chain security and helps organizations verify the integrity of code, software dependencies, and build pipelines.
Before founding Ensignia, Stewart built infrastructure security systems and teams at Brex, Cruise, and CultureAmp.
He also previously founded and sold Claiming.com.au.
Serval said the acquisition comes as it handles increasingly sensitive workflows for larger enterprise customers and expands the security infrastructure supporting its AI agents.
The company has also been expanding beyond IT into areas including HR, security, finance, and legal operations.
Serval raised a $75 million Series B led by Sequoia Capital in January 2026 at a $1 billion valuation.
Since launching in 2024, the company has grown to approximately 100 employees and has raised $127 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, Redpoint Ventures, First Round, and General Catalyst.
The Ensignia acquisition also follows Serval’s launch of Catalyst, an AI agent that can create workflows, configure integrations and access controls, model assets, and investigate issues using natural-language instructions.
KEY QUOTES:
“Information Technology sits at the center of a company’s most sensitive systems: employee access, credentials, endpoints, and the automations that touch all of them. If that layer isn’t secure, nothing else matters.”
Alex McLeod, Co-Founder and CTO of Serval
“IT teams want the speed AI promises, but they are not going to hand over their most sensitive systems until they trust it. That trust starts with security.”
Sam Stewart, Head of Security at Serval
