ShareGate (developed by Workleap) is a leading software platform that simplifies Microsoft 365 management, security, and tenant-to-tenant migration. Pulse 2.0 interviewed ShareGate VP of Product Benjamin Niaulin to learn more.

Benjamin Niaulin’s Background

Could you tell me more about your background? Niaulin said:

“I’ve been with ShareGate for over a decade, and today I lead the product team. My background is hands-on — I started out helping IT teams with tough Microsoft 365 problems. That’s how I ended up here: building tools to solve those same problems at scale. I’ve always been focused on reducing friction. Whether it’s broken workflows, messy data, or inefficient tools, I like to get to the root of what’s slowing IT down and fix it with clean, simple solutions. That mindset is what brought me into the Microsoft ecosystem—and it’s still what drives me.”

Role At The Company

What are your primary responsibilities? Niaulin shared:

“I own the product vision and direction at ShareGate, which includes profitability, long-term growth, and making sure we’re solving real problems for IT teams. Day-to-day, I work closely with product managers, designers, and researchers to discover the right problems and validate the right solutions. I’m also in sync with our engineering, sales, and marketing teams to align on strategy and stay focused on delivering value.”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Niaulin explained:

“ShareGate is the go-to platform for Microsoft 365 migration and governance. IT pros choose us because we’re simple, fast, and predictable. No complicated setup. No guesswork.

Our two products are:

  • ShareGate Migrate: Moves content from SharePoint, Exchange, Teams, OneDrive, Google Workspace — you name it. It’s designed to handle everything from day-to-day migrations to high-stakes projects like mergers or legacy upgrades.
  • ShareGate Protect: Gives IT teams the visibility and control they need to clean up sprawl, secure data, and prepare for AI tools like Microsoft Copilot.

We help teams go from overwhelmed to in control.”

Challenges Faced

Have you faced any challenges in your sector of work recently? Niaulin acknowledged:

“Right now, it’s a perfect storm for IT pros: M&A activity is accelerating, and organizations are under pressure to adopt AI like Microsoft Copilot. That means security, data integrity, and governance are more critical than ever. We’ve built ShareGate to help IT teams navigate this. With features like permission mapping, sensitive content detection, and automated cleanup, we’re taking the guesswork out of high-pressure migrations. And we’re making it easier to stay secure and compliant — without adding more complexity.”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Niaulin noted:

“We launched in 2009 with a single goal: make SharePoint migrations easy. Over time, we expanded into Microsoft 365 and grew with the ecosystem. Today, ShareGate supports complex migration scenarios and governance needs. And through our Partner Program, service providers can access partner assessments that help them scale their expertise and deliver value.”

Significant Milestones

What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Niaulin cited:

“A few key ones in recent years:

  • We launched tenant-to-tenant mailbox migration ****— a huge win for organizations going through M&As.
  • We added Google Workspace migration so teams can consolidate without switching tools.
  • We introduced full support for sensitivity label migrations so customers don’t lose security or compliance mid-move.
  • We launched the next generation of ShareGate Protect, an all-in-one solution that replaces scattered reports and complex permissions with one clear, reliable view.

Total Addressable Market (TAM)

What total addressable market (TAM) size is the company pursuing? Niaulin assessed:

“It’s big — and growing. We serve organizations of all sizes using Microsoft 365, plus a global network of partners. The need for simple, secure migrations and governance isn’t going away. If anything, it’s accelerating with AI, hybrid work, and digital consolidation.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates the company from its competition? Niaulin affirmed:

“Simplicity. A lot of tools in this space are complex, expensive, and hard to manage. We’ve built ShareGate to be different. It’s got an intuitive interface, predictable pricing, and fast results. ShareGate Migrate handles migrations from end to end, and ShareGate Protect helps organizations continuously optimize governance. Our customers love how easy it is to get started and stay on track.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Niaulin concluded:

“We’re on a mission to help IT pros thrive in the modern workplace, and our goal is to keep Microsoft 365 migrations and governance simple, predictable, and in their control. Migrations can be high-stakes and under tight timelines, so we’re doubling down on Sharegate Migrate being the go-to tool.”

“We have our sights set on launching Entra ID migration and a dedicated backup solution — essentials for any IT workflow.”

“We’re also investing big in governance. That means putting AI to work where it makes the most impact — supercharging ShareGate Protect to give IT professionals smarter insights and more actionable recommendations.”

“All of this is backed by a stronger partner strategy. We’re unlocking more migration scenarios and building a partner-led model that scales. Our goal is to help partners grow their services, win more deals, and deliver rock-solid results with tools and support they can count on.”
